Director Outreach & Conferences International Baccalaureate Washington

Reporting directly to the Chief Schools Officer, the Director will lead the Global Outreach Team in managing and developing the IB’s relationship with the pipeline of newly interested schools as well as existing schools interested in adding IB Programmes, manage the relationship with schools associations, networks, advisory councils and overall community relations and lead the development and implementation of IB global conferences and country events.

The Director will lead a globally distributed staff including Heads of Outreach and their respective staffs in D.C., The Hague and Singapore in managing the relationship with over 50 associations and networks, approximately 10 country initiatives, and services to interested schools which leads to approximately 450 applications for candidacy per year and have P&L budget responsibility for established events.
Specific Accountabilities:

Developing interested schools:

Accountable for creating, maintaining and providing services to the pipeline of schools newly interested in the IB programmes or existing schools interested in adding programmes.

Accountable for managing leads from Marketing, and support interested schools until schools complete an application for candidacy at which time they transition to the Authorization team.

Accountable for responsiveness to all schools and maintaining standards of service and preparing for hand-off to Authorization department.



Advisory councils and community relationships:

Maintain a process for SLT oversight over country initiatives including comprehensive risk management and benefit analysis.

Accountable for the creation and management of virtual volunteer country councils to provide timely cultural input and support to the IB. Does not include school-based relationships.

Manage the meetings, bi-annual conferences, elections/appointments and regular interaction with the IB Heads Council, a representative advisory body for the Director General.

Responsible for relationships with all IB Associations/Networks and create strategies to enhance our engagements with each (e.g. PD, events, country councils, project support).

Promote and manage university recognition, including a strategy for delivering easily accessible information to universities, schools and students on recognition and accreditation policies and equivalencies.



IB global conferences and country events:

Logistics and content for annual Global Conferences and the bi-annual Heads Conference, as they are now or as he/she sees fit to fit within his/her conference strategy. Excludes workshops which are managed by PD Delivery.

Management and oversight of other IB organized or affiliated events around the world including events to bring together higher education officials, students, and interested schools.

Creation of new and innovative events that can be offered for less expense to the IB and participants, more often and to more, and new, participants.

Build and maintain relationships with IB event speakers, including finding ways to continue their engagement in the IB ecosystem over time, increasing the value of the IB and its content as thought leaders in international education.



Job Requirements:

Qualifications/Experience

A Postgraduate (Master) degree in education, management or other appropriate field. Doctorate degree preferred.

10 years international development experience in the education sector

A proven record demonstrating a high level of leadership, organizational, management and inter-personal skills

A proven commitment to international-mindedness and significant experience working with diverse cultures to achieve successful outcomes

Excellent communicator with a high level of spoken and written competence in at least two languages is preferred, one of which must be English

Proven ability to manage a multi-million-dollar profit and loss budget in collaboration with other staff and to work within it

Experience of marketing in a non-profit context

Familiarity with the key features of all four IB programmes

Familiarity with typical education systems and practices in public, private and international school systems.

Experience in working with not-for-profit entities and with not-for-profit Boards of Directors

Willingness to work flexibly and to travel extensively.
