Director Emerging Technology Projects NRG Energy Houston

Serve as program director for multiple emerging technology projects during technology research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) phases.
Direct the evaluation of the technical potential of new and innovative carbon capture, sequestration, or beneficiation technologies; advise on NRG participation and/or investment in RD&D programs for promising technologies.

Direct and manage NRG enterprise-wide emerging technology program - Emerging Technology Center of Excellence (ETCOE) under direction of Executive Sponsor and ETCOE Executive Steering Committee.
Negotiate participation and intellectual property agreements with new technology owner/developers.
Plan and direct technology-specific RD&D projects; assemble and direct project teams of relevant internal and external experts and support personnel; execute project plans toward the objective of proving technology deployment at commercial-scale across the NRG fleet and elsewhere.
Advise and support internal investment analysis with respect to technology development risk, operating parameters, application requirements and constraints, capital and operating costs, and potential addressable markets.
Monitor and report program and individual project progress and health on regularly-established intervals to E&C business unit and NRG senior/executive management.
Fulfill all internal and external project and program tracking and reporting requirements in satisfaction of relevant financing arrangements, loan guarantees, grants, bonds, etc.
Track and evaluate emerging technologies exhibiting potential fits with NRG’s business model, industry trends, and best practices.
Mentor developing staff members such that development and maturation is defined and visible.


Qualifications:

B.S. in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related degree field required.
15 years minimum relevant experience in project development, engineering, construction, or operations in utility-scale generation facilities required.
Travel to and residence time at laboratory, in-field demonstration, or project sites of up to 25% may be required.
Ability to work effectively in in-plant environments and exposures required.
Solid, demonstrated experience in forming and managing project teams required.
Fundamental understanding of the following processes required:
Current-day power plant combustion and generation technology and environmental control systems
Power plant testing methods, specifications, practices and results protocol.
Exceptional people and communication skills required.
Proforma financial modeling and analysis experience preferred.
R&D, life-cycle risk analysis experience is a plus.
University or corporate R&D experience is a plus.
Sustainability management and/or air/water/ash management/reduction experience is a plus.
Masters of Business Administration and/or Professional Engineer’s license is a plus.
