Our team of Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging research and development, located in the western USA, consists of a multidisciplinary team of highly motivated scientists, engineers and advanced application specialists. We are seeking a very experienced individual to lead our team to maximize the clinical and business impact of our research work.
The individual will be responsible for contributing to the global predevelopment roadmaps, identifying innovative and clinically relevant MR techniques that have a well-defined value proposition for our customers and be accountable for the generation of initial prototypes, clinical evaluation and advocacy for innovative techniques that potentially impact patient and disease management.

The individual should demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the healthcare business and intuition for the needs of the future in this rapidly changing environment. He/she will be devising viable strategies that ensure sustainable growth of our business. In this role, the individual will own, build and develop the relationship with our academic and clinical collaboration partners and identify, design and execute projects of mutual interest and benefit. Furthermore, the individual will act as a liaison between our customers and stakeholders at Siemens, including marketing, product definition and development teams.

As team leader the individual is expected to inspire the team member to grow to their full potential and make best use of their capabilities and abilities, foster a high performance culture and identify and address potential areas of improvements. He/she should be able to identify and attract talents to join Siemens as well as retain relevant expertise and experience within the team.

The Director Engineering, MR reports to Sr. Director, Engineering, MR.

Position Responsibilities:

Duties will include but are not limited to:
Team Development
• Lead a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers and application specialists.
• Grow team members to their full potential. Identify and support career opportunities.
• Identify and retain talents. Foster high performance culture.
• Responsible for research budget and resource allocation.

Research and Development
• Trend scout for clinically relevant technologies and advocate for them.
• Contribute to global predevelopment roadmaps.
• Identify, define and execute projects that align with the predevelopment roadmap.
• Accountable for the development and clinical evaluation of prototypes.
• Conduct original research resulting in patent applications and peer reviewed journal publications.

Collaboration Support
• Support and grow existing collaboration relationships.
• Identify and initiate strategic research partnerships.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
• Ph.D. in related discipline (e.g. physics, biomedical engineering) preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years related experience in various functions. (Advanced degree may be substituted for experience).
• Team leading experience. Ability to inspire people to own the development of novel approaches and empowering of team members.
• Team building experience. Ability to build a well-performing team.
• Excellent skills in negotiation, coaching and communication.
• Understanding in product development cycles in requirements in the medical device industry.
• Expertise in MR imaging techniques, clinical applications and medical physics.
• Excellent skills in MS office software applications (word & excel).
• Outstanding written and verbal communication.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and can do attitude.
• Outstanding skills to build efficient internal and external networks.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize work.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Minimum of 10 years related experience in various functions. (Advanced degree may be substituted for experience).
• Expertise in MR imaging with proven track record of published papers.
