Senior Director - Marketing Operations - Borden Dairy Company - Dallas
Job description
Position Summary:
Manage and coordinate all activities related to the printing and production of all Borden Dairy Company packaging, ensuring compliance with corporate procurement procedures while completing duties such as estimating, pre-press, printing, fulfillment, mailing/invoicing services, etc. Integrate the brand design agency, marketing, plants, procurement and printing production to reduce costs, improve accuracy, ensure high quality and meet delivery deadlines. This position requires a highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented professional who also has ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously all while anticipating organization and project needs. This individual is an engaged member of the team, providing ways to improve process and production methods and increase project efficiencies.
Role Responsibilities:
Packaging Development
Assist marketing on packaging concepts to ensure concept can be reproduced on press within both time constraints and printer capabilities
Lead legal, R&D and marketing review of concepts; review with state regulatory as needed
Obtain correct die lines from printers for all materials and ensure the design concept can be accurately produced
Develop accurate cost estimates and negotiate aggressively for lower costs
Process and track mock ups, prototypes, electronic templates and printer proofs with vendors
Packaging Printing
Lead the pre-production call with design agency, pre-press, printer and procurement to go over creative reproduction, mechanical files and schedules. Discuss potential issues and solve any problems
Ensure files from pre-press house are accurate, proofed and routed to R&D, Plant, and Brand manager. Communicate changes to pre-press
Release files to appropriate printer; alert plant that labels are ready for order
Attend press checks as needed for printed pieces
Obtain color proofs from all printers and check color accuracy and quality standard
Assist brand teams with research and price quotes for collateral and print material and promotional items and/or signage
Responsible for the planning, production and execution of complex production schedules, proactively hold the entire organization accountable to critical dates to ensure production schedule is met
Work-Flow Governance
Establish and maintain process for ensuring information on the label is accurate and approved by legal
Work with procurement on scheduling jobs, ensuring materials arrive to plant on-time
Successfully manage between 25-50 packaging items/week
Work with your supervisor, select/confirm the best vendor for any given project, ensuring the most competitive pricing
Work with internal partners to define the project’s objectives, create schedules and oversee quality control according to needs and deadlines, while keeping the project within budget throughout the entire project
Centralize Quality Control
Manage electronic brand assets
Ensure all projects are printed and delivered on time
Engage with vendors to develop efficient schedules and processes that drive efficiencies to the benefit of the company
Trafficking all hard and soft proofs internally and externally on assigned jobsDirect accountability and management of projects to facilitate the production of marketing materials and printed product
Essential Duties
Partner and establish strong relationships with cross functional teams, including creative agencies, marketing, and legal, that provide information related to the projects
Responsible for gathering of information and materials needed to kick off a project or start a piece of art, as well as for routing, tracking and execution of projects
Review the appropriate checklist(s) to ensure all pieces or materials are validated prior to project kick off
Understand and explain project objectives and deliverables
Communicate information and timing expectations before jobs go into production to avoid misunderstandings
Maintain a master artwork project schedule across all brands, and monitor project progress, deliverable, quality assurance, and customer service
Participate in cross-functional team meetings
For all assigned projects, monitor all phases of production including schedules, securing specifications, communications with all internal and external team members, reviewing proofs and tracking final delivery to ensure that end results meet and exceed the requirements and budgets
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; preferred in Business or Graphics Communication
Must have 5+ years print production experience; with minimum 2 years graphic design
CPG experience, a plus; possessing knowledge of CPG packaging, creative design, production artwork process and print production
Proven track record of trafficking print production, quality control measures, and process adherence
Excellent oral, written, negotiation communication skills
Demonstrate excellent communication ability using strong listening skills and logical, systematic approach to assimilating and sharing information in all areas
Strong project management, organizational skills and multi-tasking skills are a must, as well as strong problem solving and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and work in an unstructured environment
Capable of managing a fast-paced workload, while meeting requirements for the company
Flexible and collaborative in all cross-functional responsibilities
Fluent with Microsoft Office suite of productivity tools (MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), Creative Suite 5 for Mac and proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator and Photoshop
Knowledge in Felxo, Roto and Offset printing a must
Basic proficiency in color management, inks and packaging substrates
Skilled proofreader
