This position is a critical member of the Acquia Cloud team, serving as the Product Owner and engineering manager for Acquia Cloud’s core platform. Acquia Cloud is our Platform as a Service optimized for delivering integrated digital experiences using Drupal. It is used by thousands of enterprises to develop, manage and scale hundreds of thousands of Drupal websites, including some of the largest and highly trafficked sites in the world.
As the Director of Cloud Engineering you will be leading a passionate team of engineers building an enterprise-grade PaaS on top of Amazon Web Services (AWS). The position is based in Boston, MA office and reports directly to the VP of Engineering..

What will you do?

Recruit and coach a passionate team of highly skilled back-end developers.
Act as an agile Product Owner managing the backlogs and priorities of various sub-teams building Acquia Cloud components and services
Manage the teams and the products in a DevOps fashion wherein every engineer may be on on-call and thus instill in the team a passion for automation and reliability
Work closely with other product owners, product managers, and company stakeholders to plan roadmaps, product releases and sprints
Act as a strong servant-leader, removing impediments in the team's way and helping the team find the optimum path forward
Deliver to agreed-upon schedules without sacrificing quality
Triage new product issues with UX, Product Management and Support
Promote agile best practices using Scrum
Facilitate the consistent adoption and continuous learning of existing and emerging engineering best practices
Identify opportunities for consuming open-source projects and contributing code back to the open-source community. You believe in building on the shoulders of giants instead of re-inventing the wheel
Mentor and lead team members to develop solid engineering skills and careers
Ensure code quality and sound system architecture to allow our services to scale and be extended as needed
Respond quickly to operational incidents and customer escalations
Manage the budget, processes, security, compliance and all team related activities for your teams
Qualifications:

5+ years managing technical teams and building SaaS or PaaS products using agile processes and engineering best practices
Deep experience with LAMP hosting architectures (Varnish, Apache, Nginx, MySQL, etc.)
5+ years experience building high-quality software as an individual contributor in web scripting languages (Ruby, PHP, Python, etc.)
3-5 years experience in Linux configuration and configuration management
Experience running Cloud workloads on a service such as Amazon Web Services, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure, etc.
Demonstrable passion for technology and continually acquiring new skills
A history of developing products using open-source technologies
Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science, or other technical discipline preferred
Experience running complex distributed applications at great scale
Experience leading geographically distributed teams
Experience with Continuous Integration processes and technologies
