The Director, Campus Store Operations will help build and lead Amazon’s initial entrance into retail campus store operations. College students looking for a good deal on their textbooks now have an easier way to find them, thanks to a partnership between Amazon and Universities. Amazon will offer a specially-branded homepage that’s designed to give students a portal to online shopping.

Operating physical campus stores for Amazon is unchartered territory for us and will require strategic thinking, creativity, and operational rigor. The Director, Campus Store Operations will be responsible for building and scaling this program, an initiative that has never been attempted before in scope or scale. To do this, s/he must be able to manage across functions and create certainty out of ambiguity while having a firm grasp over the operational, financial, and technical aspects of the program. Working with a large group of diverse stakeholders, this person must provide vision and strategy for program while simultaneously being able to dive deep into the details to drive results, create efficiencies, and maintain cost competitiveness. These stores will not only be book stores but also serve as pick up locations of anything Amazon sells, including Amazon Fresh. In short; this person will be responsible for bringing the future of Campus Stores to Amazon.
The Director, Campus Store Operations must be a visible leader, who earns the respect of our leaders and their teams due to their vision, strong communication skills, and experience with driving innovation through outside-the-box thinking.
This position will be responsible for the following strategic focus areas:
· Assess and cultivate the current and future state Campus Stores while continually seeking new opportunities to grow. In doing so, this person must be able to “see around corners” from a strategic perspective and understand the more granular details to ensure the program continues to be customer-focused, financially feasible, and operationally efficient.
· This person will champion Amazon Store Operations within the company and be able to support Campus Stores by working across functions. This leader will excel in creating and implementing never-before-seen programs and being able to present the business case for those programs to Amazon leadership.
· This leader will need ensure we have the right team in place to hand our large growth and scale
· This leader must also focus on creating industry differentiating cost advantages while continuing to delight our customers.
· Build the operations team that will be responsible for national roll out of Amazon Campus stores
· Open and run physical stores with partnering Universities/Colleges.
· Create standard operational process that will allow for rapid expansion and growth.
· Hire, develop, and lead Campus Store personnel and associates.
· Work closely to partner with Amazon Retail business leaders.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Technical Field
This leader will have 15+ years’ experience with a well-rounded operations, business, and retail, broad strategic vision, and hands-on experience.
Experience operating retail stores or leading a business team of a global company.
This leader will be firmly grounded in analytics.
This leader should be able to manage diversity of culture in organizations as well as matrix structure of organization.
Experience in Lean and Six Sigma.
Hands-on leader that can move from long term strategy to day to day tactical operations challenges.
