Director Marine Commercial Sales Volvo Group Chesapeake

The primary focus of this position is to provide technical, strategic and administrative direction and leadership to support the sales application engineering, business administration/development and sales efforts to secure and maintain effective business relationships with OEMs, dealers and customers in the marine commercial engine business that result in increased customer loyalty, profitability, and sales revenue.
Core Responsibilities:

Develop and implement technical, business and go-to-market strategies designed to increase VPA market share in North America for marine commercial sales that achieve short and long term revenue and profitability goals.
Prepare strategy for and coordinate conquest and sales efforts with Yards, Designers and Operators (YDO) within VPA territory.
Develop plans and strategies to meet and/or exceed marine commercial sales targets.
Implement strategy to provide outstanding customer service, toward the goal of exceeding our customer’s expectations.
Develop and execute a product pricing strategy designed to increase VPA’s market share and profitability for marine commercial engines.
Coordinate the technical development of our product with VPA Product Management by engineering competitive applications with our customers and potential clients.
Develop plans and business cases requiring resources, project investments and capital investments that support sales growth through new business development.
Provide cost/margin analysis and develop pricing strategies for marine commercial products.
Develop, recommend and implement process improvements of our back office administrative systems that enhance the order-to-delivery value we provide our customers.
Develop and recommend OEM, commercial dealer and power center sales programs for the VPA market area.
Provide direction on the development of new marine commercial customer applications that meet the needs of all stakeholders.
Take the lead on communications and coordinating activities with VPS marine commercial personnel on all issues that impact VPA’s marine commercial products/business
Effectively oversee management of marine commercial portion of the annual departmental operating budget delivering year-end on-plan result.
Lead the strategy and overall efforts to obtain military and commercial contracts.
Effectively oversee and manage department personnel as assigned.
Assume publisher responsibilities for quarterly Marine Commercial Newsletter
Represent VPA on the Marine Commercial Segment council
Find opportunities to represent Volvo Penta on industry boards and panels, including public speaking experiences, professional writing and other ways to enhance Volvo Penta’s reputation and expertise in the marine commercial market.
Perform other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management to support Volvo Penta’s various goals and objectives.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

Excellent coaching and team building skills
Proven record of sales and marketing accomplishments with marine commercial OEM and dealer customer base
Strong balance of leadership, technical, marketing, public relations and sales skills
Excellent communication, problem solving skills, customer facing skills including presentation, written and verbal communication, and a sensitivity to customer excellence
Self-starter with ability to motivate, inspire and develop team members
Highly entrepreneurial and willing to roll up his/her sleeves
Management experience with financial control of operating budget
Strong time management and prioritization skills; must be able to juggle multiple projects
Proven track record of identifying and delivering commercially viable opportunities
The ability to work effectively in a company with changing priorities and aggressive growth goals
40-60% travel required, including international travel.

Education and Experience:

Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business; or equivalent combination of education and experience
MBA or Master’s degree preferred
10 years progressive sales, business development and/or customer-facing engagement responsibility, within the marine commercial industry
A minimum of 5 years of sales management experience.
Well-grounded OEM experience and engine company background preferred

Must demonstrate a high level of competence in each of the Volvo Leadership Competencies at “Leading Leaders” level.
