Director - Systems Engineering - Ciena - Denver
Job description
Customer-facing Senior Sales engineering leader supporting all aspects of the CenturyLink account. This position is responsible for the hiring, development and allocation of all systems engineering resources, driving strategic growth, interacting with senior technologists and business leaders, and leading technical initiatives. Candidates are expected to have strong internal and external communications skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive strategic growth and demonstrate thought leadership throughout the account
Manage, motivate, hire, develop and engage the CenturyLink systems engineering team
Identify, communicate, and discuss SE team goals, objectives
Facilitate the free flow of ideas within the team
Mentor team members to encourage development
Serve as a senior technical resource for customer related issues, assisting with advanced customer applications
Document team processes, work results
Collect and disseminate product information
Assist in assessment of potential product features, providing input on prioritization
Assist in tracking of product deliverables and communicating issues to regional teams
Assist to transition customers from end-of life products to other CIENA products
Manage customer requests and coordinate sales activities
Review quotes, RFX's, and forecasts
Product presentations
Performs other duties as assigned
50% + travel
Location: Denver, CO or Monroe , LA
Required Skills
Strong knowledge of converged packet optical architectures
Strong knowledge of agile software development
Interest in SDN, NFV and APIs
Management/Decision-making/Problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to encourage teamwork and involvement of less experienced individuals (providing them with necessary exposure)
Understanding of requirement of processes
Understanding of competitive sales environment
Time management skills
Professionalism in attitude, conduct, and appearance
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
Needs to have demonstrated management capability, technical expertise, strong customer and staff relationships, sales strategy, delivery of results and improvements
Previous Sales Engineering experience with CenturyLink and an understanding of large-scale networking.
Required Experience
Technical Degree or BSEE or relevant work experience
Master’s degree a plus, but not required
7-10+ years telecommunications industry experience or relevant work experience with demonstrated leadership and/or management experience
Strong systems engineering and systems engineering management background required
SE background required. Successful technical account management with large scale customers
