Director of School Services – International Baccalaureate (IB)
Bethesda, Maryland

The International Baccalaureate is seeking a Director of School Services based in our Global Centre in Bethesda, Maryland. The International Baccalaureate (www.ibo.org) is a not-for-profit educational organization offering curriculum, professional development and assessment worldwide. The IB is a recognized leader in the field of international education. IB's programs encourage students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens.

We are currently seeking a dynamic leader to drive our overall strategy and the creation of pre- and post- authorization services to schools within the schools division and for IB schools worldwide. The job holder oversees global process for pre -and post- authorization services, communication with schools regarding these services and proposing, creating and implementing new services to clusters / schools. This role is responsible for global consistency and quality assurance for authorization and evaluation of schools and guidelines for training of experts in the area of authorization and evaluation techniques. This key leadership position will report to the Chief Schools Officer, Schools Division and will be based out of our Global Centre in Bethesda, Maryland.


The job holder oversees global process for pre -and post- authorization services, communication with schools regarding these services and proposing, creating and implementing new services to clusters / schools. This role is responsible for global consistency and quality assurance for authorization and evaluation of schools and guidelines for training of experts in the area of authorization and evaluation techniques.

The Director will oversee the work of several managers and is globally responsible for:
Creation of new and innovative services in response to data gathered from new and established schools;
Guidelines measuring implementation of the school application, verification and evaluation processes.
Oversight and management of communications to schools;
Quality assurance/continual improvement for all above activities;
Serving as a contributing member of the Schools Division team;
Collecting feedback from schools worldwide through the regions, and through QAF data from authorization and evaluation processes.

Desired Skills and Experience
Given the nature of this role, we are looking for a leader with:
Advanced degree (MA, MS, EdD or PhD);
15 years+ significant combined successful experience in education (teaching, school administration, school district-level or university work); IB experience preferred.
Extensive experience in administering and managing one or more IB academic programs within a school; Familiarity with current educational trends, legislation, policies globally & international education;
Excellent skills in communication, organization and negotiation;
Proven experience in strategy development and people management;
Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is extremely helpful.
Proven experience in strategy development and an ability to think beyond own area of responsibility to create new, long-term visions for the organization at executive level;
Proven experience in people management; Ability to focus, align and build high performing teams.
Proven experience to establish and manage budgets.
