Spaceflight is looking for a proven engineering leader to guide a multi-disciplinary team focused on supporting rideshare launch missions. We are providing customer access to space by manifesting spacecraft on multiple worldwide launch vehicles. We adapt our missions to best support the ever-evolving new space industry and its many launch vehicles and customers. Our missions range from a single spacecraft on a single vehicle to upwards of 80 spacecraft on a Spaceflight-developed integrated payload stack. This dynamic range of mission profiles requires a similarly dynamic and agile leader to guide the implementation and execution of the engineering efforts required for mission success.
Direct and develop Spaceflight Launch Engineering to successfully fulfill launch mission portfolio objectives.
Serve as the organizational technical architect by owning project technical baselines and decision-making, working within program cost and schedule constraints.
Provide organizational leadership for the engineering and production disciplines required to develop launch integration systems: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Assembly and Integration Engineering, etc.
Manage risk posture and inevitability of change while balancing that against sound engineering practices
Implement and maintain multi-functional engineering practices to support business priorities and promote efficient resource usage.
Support business development efforts as the primary technical point of contact.
Actively participate in talent management to attract, retain, grow, and develop technical staff. Identify and validate staffing needs, establish and monitor employee technical and non-technical growth plans, and implement efficient on-boarding practices.
Work closely with other business development and service operations to align methods and processes.
Support the development of strategy to advance department capabilities in line with medium to long range business objectives and identify open business opportunities based on engineering department expertise.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
10+ years of experience in engineering or engineering leadership.
3+ years of experience supporting space launch vehicle or payload integration in a technical capacity.
Employee management experience, with some experience leading a multi-disciplinary engineering organization that has delivered a final product.
Demonstrated ability as a technical authority in at least one area within space launch integration: loads and dynamics, separation systems, range compliance, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, etc.
A firm grasp of the role that engineering plays in business execution, and the relationship between technical considerations, cost, and schedule.
Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder)
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in engineering or science.
Experience managing and tracking requirements and interface definitions.
Knowledge of regulatory environments and related issues related to the space industry.
10+ years of experience supporting space launch vehicle or payload integration in a technical capacity having seen multiple programs successfully from concept to completion.
Experience in leadership roles on a concept planning team or technical proposal team.
