As the Director, Central Test Engineering, you will be responsible for end-to-end execution of our manufacturing test stations, including deployment of factory IT infrastructure across the entire portfolio of hardware products. You’ll also identify and evolve best practices. In this role, you will lead a global team in the design, implementation, and ongoing improvement of production test systems, DFM processes, and factory infrastructure. You’ll effectively balance engineering and operations processes and take into account the competitive dynamics to surpass the rate of innovation in the consumer electronics industry. Additionally, you will support large-volume and first-generation products in several new emerging technology areas.
As the Director of Central Test Engineering, you will lead Manufacturing Test, DFM, and Factory IT infrastructure and associated global efforts to efficiently and effectively optimize time-to-market and product quality, costs, and delivery for all the business units within Devices and Services at Google. You will be the main interface to the Hardware Engineering and Product Operations leads. Finally, you will directly lead a team of ~170 Googlers across functions including Test Engineering, Manufacturing, Software, and Technical Program Management. As a senior leader of the business, you will also have responsibility for the development of leadership talent within the organization, in order to ensure that a robust pipeline of skilled leaders are available. Specifically, you will build and develop an effective team of Engineering-minded Operations professionals and fortify the team’s reputation as a highly effective resource of expertise in Product Quality. Responsibilities Design, execution, and implementation of end-to-end manufacturing test solutions and engineering/operational product development processes and associated strategies, taking into account competitive dynamics to surpass the rate of innovation in the consumer electronics industry. Lead a team of Engineering-minded Operations professionals to drive rapid time-to-market at immediate scale, without compromising product quality. Manage Manufacturing Test and Factory IT infrastructure from new product introduction through end of life. Lead cross-functional teams across other business functions, as well as initiatives in partnership with stakeholder groups like Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Sourcing and Procurement, and Business Systems. Create a culture that balances agility and flexibility with the expectation of new products that can scale. Role-model the Google culture. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a technology related field, or equivalent practical experience. 15 years of progressive engineering experience. 3 years of experience as an Engineering leader at a tech products company. Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA. Experience with consumer electronics.
