Director - State and Local Tax Audits - Fox Entertainment Group - Los Angeles

Job description
This position will be responsible for the examination of various states, local and Canadian audits including but not limited to:
State income & franchise tax returns (combined and separate state tax returns)
Local tax returns (sales tax, property tax, business license, etc.)
Canadian income tax and Goods and Service Tax
Business privilege, business license, withholding, payroll and other local audits
Duties:
Administrative
Centralization of all state audit notices.
Confirm open years for statute of limitation purposes.
Create an Information Document Request (IDR) log for each audit.

Pre-audit preparation
Review tax returns selected for examination and applicable tax laws.
Identify and quantify audit exposures or opportunities.
Audit Management
Meet and/or correspond with tax auditor.
Present affirmative adjustments & amended returns, as necessary, to the auditor.
Review IDRs received.
Assign IDRs to members of the compliance group or to the business units, as required.
Review all information and responses provided by the compliance group and the business units.
Prepare responses for the tax auditor.
Review all audit schedules and proposed audit adjustments.
Make recommendations whether or not to accept the proposed audit adjustments.
Review final audit schedules.
Prepare appeals, as necessary.
Prepare audit closing memo.
Tax Planning
Quantify tax exposure/benefit for future audits based on current audit adjustments.
Communicate audit adjustment to the compliance group.

Desired Skills and Experience
- Must have experience (10+ years) with SALT - income and franchise tax either with Big Four and/or large public companies
- Must have experience with tax controversy
- Must have strong verbal communication and writing skills
- Must be detail oriented, organized and demonstrate the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word, required
- Strong Research skills required
- CPA and/or JD preferred but not required
- Entertainment industry background preferred but not required
