Is responsible for all general Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) business functions throughout all VMware global Geographies, based out of the Staines, UK Office / Cork, Ireland Office. This position will be reporting to the Snr Director of REW EMEA, with matrix reporting to the VP REW, and function under limited supervision. This Global position will be part of the REW Extended Leadership Team. This position works separately to the Physical Security group, although congruently to ensure holistic employee welfare and safety. The EH&S operations consists of all functional elements including geographic legal compliance, ergonomics, welfare and medical safety, traveler safety and all department programs & services. The position is responsible for building and functioning of all the safety systems, and requires a good working knowledge of workplace Health & Safety practices throughout the world in conjunction with VMware standards
Manage and Coordinate the full Environmental, Health & Safety workplace programmes in all VMware Geographies including but not limited to audits, manuals, implementation and coordination of ongoing compliance.
Liaison with the Security team on the regional emergency management programs; act as EH&S commander for emergency incidents
Manage safety investigations as required
Manage the global Ergonomics programme
FM Global Liaison to consolidate and track findings providing recommendations towards suggested remediation/program adoption
Work with corporate Risk Management and the global Security Organization on Crisis Management and Business Resiliency planning, lead REW Impact analysis.
Collaborate with REW peers, partners, customers and other stakeholders to ensure value add, high quality business process support of key business operations is in place and to ensure risk mitigation and loss avoidance efforts are successfully implemented
Manage tasks in support of the department metrics and quality assurance program
Manage local and regional EH&S partners/consultants as required for implementation & reporting of all safety programmes.
Liaison with external industry resources such as local municipality authorities, emergency responders, industry peers & associations
Working closely with the Global Security Director, establish and implement a Standards & processes for all Safety programmes where they integrate with our Security programmes, such as Employee Travel & Event safety.
Establish and implement a clear audit monitoring program for all Safety programmes
Establish and implement a risk mitigation program that helps identify any potential Safety risks and mitigate them proactively. Train, coach and mentor peers and partners to effectively participate in the risk mitigation program
Establish and implement regional & site Safety programs - ensure sufficient Coaching & training to all regional Workplace Managers (and where necessary via EH&S consultants) to ensure front line staff such as Receptionists on various emergency responses are actively engaged and knowledgeable in EH&S programmes
Plan, implement and manage required training programmes
Ensure timely submittal, acquisition and maintenance of all environmental permits and reports to maintain compliance with state, regional or federal requirements
Lead Safety components in location selection, design and building of new offices
In compliance with VMware Sourcing policies and guidelines, develop and implement, contract and vendor management strategies for Safety vendors including third party vendors
Identify and implement various operational enhancement opportunities and maintain a continuous improvement strategy
Identify any potential operational risks and drive mitigation strategies as applicable
Respond to on-site emergencies and serve as a point of contact with regional agencies for notification purposes
Participate and support REW Geo Directors on various workplace and Real Estate strategies.
Support the Corporate Sustainability programmes where necessary.
Required Qualifications & Skills
10 years minimum experience in hi-tech commercial industry EH&S
5 years minimum experience of senior supervisory and management, preferably with working knowledge across multi-site and international environment including OSHA
Strong understanding of industry specific legislations and compliance requirements
Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
Experience in integrating tools and processes and leading change in a high tech corporate environment
Proven interpersonal skills and ability to develop trust and influence others. Ability to engage with Senior Management effectively
A practical sense and ability to implement
Education Required
BS/BA degree preferred but not required (Industry experience to be considered in conjunction with level of formal education)
CMIOSH or equivalent qualification required
OSHA experience preferred
