Pfizer is seeking a Pathologist with novel biomarker development experience to integrate diagnostic pathology interpretation with knowledge of disease mechanisms and drug mechanism of action to inform development of pre-clinical and clinical assets by conceiving, designing, and implementing clinical biomarkers and associated strategies. Experience in immuno-oncology is very desirable. The successful candidate will work closely with research scientists who discover and develop drugs for the treatment of cancer, as well as research scientists and clinicians who discover and develop biomarkers for pharmacodynamics assessment and patient selection strategies in Phase I, II, III, and IV clinical trials.
The role is embedded within the Oncology Translational Research organization in Pfizer’s Early Oncology Development and Clinical Research division to ensure that strategies for the treatment and cure of disease are based on accurate analysis and pathogenic mechanisms of disease. He/She will have a strong interest in directing clinical diagnostic biomarker strategies and providing pathology support for drug and biomarker discovery programs in oncology. The successful candidate should have a good understanding of the principles of other diagnostic modalities, and be able to integrate the results across diagnostic platforms in partnership with the leaders of those other modalities. The successful candidate will drive decisions by interacting with key opinion leaders, have ultimate responsibility for studies outsourced to contract research organizations and diagnostic companies, and be accountable for driving project team decisions as they relate to target expression and patient selection.
Qualifications
A Doctor of Medicine with at least 15 years of relevant experience is being sought. Additionally, a post doctorate degree in biological or physical sciences would be highly desirable. Demonstration of scholarly productivity in a relevant field of biomedical research is required. Board certification in Anatomic Pathology or combined Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology is desirable, as is industry experience. Candidates must possess excellent traditional diagnostic pathology skills and have demonstrated a strong ability to interpret pathology data in the context of molecular and cellular biological concepts.
