Director Curatorial Affairs The Recording Academy Los Angeles

The Director of Curatorial Affairs leads the curatorial team in creating exhibits, developing and implementing collection management policies and procedures, tracking and licensing incoming assets (physical and digital) in accordance with best practices, and proactively shaping the curatorial experience of the Museum. The position is also responsible for managing the department’s curatorial affairs, including developing the curatorial calendar, execution of standard rental agreements, loan agreements, budget oversight, and risk management needs. This position includes curatorial and exhibit design duties, working closely with all affiliated staff to further shared goals. This position reports to the Grammy Museum at LA LIVE Executive Director, works collaboratively with the Chief Operating Officer on offsite partner projects as well as additional assignments as requested by the Executive Director.
What you’ll do:


The Director of Curatorial Affairs will work with the Executive Team to promote the GRAMMY Museum Foundation’s mission through the development and execution of exhibitions and specials projects, as well as maintain oversight of the GRAMMY Museum Foundation permanent and loan collections.



Skills & experience toolbox:


A minimum education level of: Bachelor of Arts/Sciences Degree (4-year), Master’s degree preferred. Area of Study: Museum Studies, Museum Science, History, Material Culture or related field.

Years of related work experience: 7 years minimum professional related experience

Must be detail oriented with a focus on accuracy.
Comfortable modeling and enforcing museum best practices in collection registration, handling, and management.
Ability to work as a valued part of a larger team, and to interface diplomatically with both internal and external partners. Employee should have previous managerial experience and demonstrate effective leadership skills to manage the Curatorial team, and guide interactions with related departments.
Experience in and knowledge of music history, museum best practices, exhibition installation processes and requirements, as well as experience developing and executing curatorial paperwork (loan agreements, deed of gifts, venue contracts, etc).
Ability to create, track and reconcile expense budgets and forecasts.
Ability to maintain confidential material.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including solid grammar and punctuation skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks with effective follow-through.
Exceptional skills in effectively organizing, diplomatically controlling, and systematically managing large amounts of data information.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Familiarity with common museum collection and/or digital asset management systems and their customization.
Experience with ReDiscovery Proficio, Adobe InDesign, and Microsoft Excel desired.
