The Director for Public Affairs (PA)/US Government Relations (USGR) – Oncology North America reports to the Senior Director for Public Affairs/USGR – Oncology North America, leads the development and management of select strategic public affairs initiatives to achieve the business and reputational objectives of Pfizer’s Oncology business in North America.

• Serves as strategic counsel and key thought partner to commercial and cross-functional leaders and colleagues in managing risk/opportunities and assessing impact of the external policy environment on business strategy.
Responsibilities
Develop and lead implementation of a strategic, pro-active public affairs agenda to achieve targeted business objectives of Oncology North America.
• Lead public affairs strategy development and implementation on initiatives relevant to the prostate and lung cancer businesses. Identify relevant policy issues for inline and pipeline products; develop engagement strategies working cross-functionally with USGR, Policy, Pfizer Oncology and others as appropriate; sit on the commercial extended cross-functional teams to represent PA/USGR; and lead relationships with patient and professional advocacy organizations in these disease states on policy issues.
• Lead Oncology public affairs engagement on Insurer Practices policy issues. Work closely with Policy and USGR to provide input from Oncology perspective on this cross-therapeutic issue; develop and implement oncology strategy with internal and external cancer stakeholders.
• Support Senior Director in other priorities as requested, such as Value of Cancer Medicines initiative, biosimilars policy issues and quality measures initiatives.
• Maintain focus on the priority policy and reputational issues that present major opportunities or threats to the Oncology business over the short, medium and long term, and ensure clear action plans are in place. Monitor environment for emerging trends.
Develop and implement external engagement strategies with key stakeholders to advance Pfizer Oncology’s policy and reputational agenda on the issues discussed above.
• Lead and coordinate external engagement with targeted patient and professional organizations on cancer policy issues (e.g. Lung Cancer Alliance, American Urology Association)
• Understand priorities of key stakeholders to identify areas of alignment and opportunities for engagement to advance mutual interests aligned with Pfizer Oncology’s priorities.
• Manage support of special events with cancer patient advocacy community to maximize Pfizer Oncology presence.
Leverage and coordinate Corporate Affairs and other Pfizer resources as appropriate in support of above priorities.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree required. Advanced Degree in health/public policy, international affairs, political science, and/or Law strongly preferred. Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in public policy, federal or state government relations, and/or public affairs.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives with external stakeholders and with cross functional colleagues in a complex matrix structure. Experience in managing multi-dimensional and long term relationships with patient and provider organizations required. Experience in oncology a plus.
