Director - Supply Chain & Logistics - Pacific Foods - Tualatin
Job description
Position Summary:
Directs and coordinates all activities related to the supply chain at Pacific Foods, encompassing the sales and operations planning process, sourcing, purchasing, receipt of raw material, raw material staging, inventory control, production scheduling, finished goods warehousing and logistics as well as outsourcing functions. Responsible for integrating these functions to successfully support the execution of the production plan on a timely and accurate basis. Responsible for management of appropriate inventory levels that accomplish company cash flow objectives and meet customer expectations regarding order fulfillment. Provides strategic planning support to the Vice President of Operations on supply chain issues.
Essential Functions:
Directs purchasing, receipt of raw material, staging of raw material and production scheduling activities to support the production plan on a timely basis.
Leads and oversees the sales and operations planning process for the company.
Responsible for development and execution of inventory plan to provide appropriate inventory levels of all items to support customer fulfillment and meet company cash flow objectives.
Coordinates supply of satellite (forward) warehouse inventories and oversees outsourcing activities with outside vendors.
Responsible for controlling and minimizing spending on all ingredients and materials.
Directs finished goods distribution to support customer fulfillment targets.
Responsible for developing and executing company logistics plan encompassing efficient and cost effective movement of finished goods to customer.
Responsible for developing and maintaining contracts for key ingredients and materials.
Participates as active member of the operations management team in setting strategic direction for company growth in the Supply Chain area.
In partnership with Sustainability Department, assist in the development and management of supply chain responsibility program.
Ensures food safety, quality and environmental protocols are followed.
Secondary Functions:
Works with the Vice President of Operations to identify and implement process and system improvements in the departments that this position directs.
Coordinates completion and adherence to the departmental expense budgets to support the company’s annual budget.
Facilitates interaction with the Sales and Marketing department regarding setting appropriate levels of production and inventory to support sales order fulfillment.
Represents the Company in meetings with internal and external customers and suppliers.
Participates in contract negotiations.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities:
Accountable for managing the entire employee lifecycle: hiring, coaching, evaluation performance, determining pay, balancing workloads, resolving performance issues and making recommendations for termination, as appropriate. Performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Working conditions:
Work will be performed in an office environment. Extensive use of office equipment such as computers and telephones is expected. The position requires frequent sitting. The position is subject to long hours (including evening meetings). Work will occasionally be performed in a distribution center/manufacturing environment.
Desired Skills and Experience
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a complex organization and facilitate cross-functional teams.
Strong technical skills in the area of process manufacturing, preferably food products.
Consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry knowledge and familiarity with aseptic manufacturing processes and equipment is preferred.
Familiarity with high speed packaging environments.
The ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across Sales, Supply Chain, Research and Development, Finance and Production functions.
Demonstrated success building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationship with suppliers and supply chain partners.
Excellent computer and analytical skills with advanced abilities in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MRP systems.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills. Expert negotiating skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects and priorities.
Solid interpersonal, teamwork and mentoring skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all departments throughout the company.
Requires frequent use of discretion, decision-making, creativity, negotiation, basic and advanced math, and exercise of independent judgment.
Minimum qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business, or related field. Advanced degree in similar field and/or industry certification (i.e. APICS) is preferred. The position requires 10+ years of progressive supervisory and management experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment (preferably in the food industry). Strong understanding and ability to utilize and train employees on Material Requirements Planning (MRP) is a must.
