The Database Services team within AWS is responsible for setting the database strategy and delivering highly scalable, highly reliable, distributed database services to AWS customers for their relational, non-relational database and data warehouse needs. Today, the team delivers multiple services such as Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift and ElastiCache and Quicksight.
We believe that both our AWS and Database Services business are in their infancy. Over the next few years, together they will represent a very large business for Amazon. We are looking for an experienced technical leader to take our early lead in the database services market and help us grow the business by defining and delivering industry leading next generation database services architected for the cloud. The ideal person would be technically deep, aspirations to be build an awesome product, and capable of hiring and developing the best engineering talent.

In this role, you will hire and lead a world class software development team responsible for rethinking the assumptions behind how traditional database services were built and thinking how to build database services best suited for the cloud. You will own the design, development, testing and deployment of these database services. You will draw from your deep and broad technical expertise to hire and mentor engineers, complete hands-on technical work and provide leadership on complex technical issues. You will manage and be responsible for delivering some of our most strategic technical projects, deliver large scale systems, design new software systems at the cutting edge of distributed database technology and have a significant revenue growth and bottom-line impact on our business and competitive position.

As a Director of Software Development, you will part of the larger technical leadership community at Amazon. This community forms the backbone of the company, plays a critical role in the broad business planning, working closely with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements, influences our long-term technical and business strategy, helps us hire talented team of engineers and ultimately enables us to deliver innovative new solutions rapidly.

Basic Qualifications
· Bachelors in Computer Science or Engineering
· Minimum of 15 years of experience, 7+years of which must be in engineering management position
· If no degree then requires an additional 4 years of experience, 3 of which must be in developing software.

Preferred Qualifications

· Masters or PhD in Computer Science with a minimum of 15 years of relevant software development and engineering management experience.
· Experience with database systems kernel development is nice to have.
