Senior Director Data Intelligence National Basketball Association (NBA) New York

The head of Data Intelligence will be a key member of the new and growing function of Customer Data Strategy charged with building a foundational, world class team of deep analytical intelligence including internal data science expertise. This person will report into the Senior Vice President of Customer Data Strategy, part of the enterprise global Marketing division. He/she will be part of an inaugural team of peers that includes Data Strategy and Execution focused on elevating the NBA's use of analytics, predictive modeling, data visualization, and influence to take both our teams and our league to the next level with a vision of 'deepening engagement with fans, both prospective and existing, that builds a lifetime love of the game'. This will involve leveraging many different but related data streams along with future streams to inform a single view of the fan across the NBA's global touchpoints including both on and offline platforms and channels.

Major Responsibilities:
• Owner and SME on all NBA fan modeling - maintain and enhance current fan models with a sound validation and enhancement practice along with developing new ones
• Single point of contact for teams and league on customer data intelligence including statistical analytics, predictive modeling, and data visualization
• Consultant to both teams and league on experiments and use case experiments, modeling, and intelligence understanding and automation
• Defining and executing on a sound set of use cases informed by this team's work on fan data, both existing and future sources that drive measureable lift to fan engagement and revenue
• Partnering strongly with peer heads of strategy and execution along with an expanded peer set in Team Business and Operations, Marketing, IT, and Media to broaden deeper understanding of fans
• Evangelize use of data to inform personalized and relevant fan contacts and therefore engagement


Required Experience & Knowledge:
•Computer Science degree and application, modeling, statistics, analytics experience
•Demonstrated ability to take analytics and turn it into actionable insights and work plans
•Strong business acumen coupled with the ability to communicate findings to both business and IT in a way that strongly influences the NBA's approach to fan marketing and engagement activities
•Strategic ability to affect not just business problems but the ability to pick the right problems to solve
•Strong passion for customer data and its ability to transform and galvanize world class marketing
•Deep bench and experience in leading data scientists and modelers
•Comfort with ambiguous and large streams of data across different formats and entry points
•Strong communicator with ability to work a highly matrixed environment with right blend of intellect and influence
•Technology savviness and inquisitive digital native immersed and interested in new technologies
•A minimum of 7-10 years in the data intelligence field
•Experience running data intelligence practice of analytics and data science specialists
•Demonstrated bench and followership in data science and intelligence practice
•Demonstrated success in evangelizing data practice in prior experience with demonstrated shift to customer experience and business outcomes


Educational Background Required:
•Computer Science degree
•Advanced degree preferred but not necessary
