Director Investments HP Palo Alto

The Director of Investments will join a team of investment professionals focused on delivering strong investment results for HP’s retirement plans and beneficiaries and will report to the Head of Investments/CIO.
The Director of Investments’ responsibilities will include:
Working with the CIO on the design, implementation and oversight of investment policies, strategies, and guidelines for various benefit plans, including the management of derivative-based overlay programs.
Leading the investment team’s activities:
Performing careful, thoughtful, and thorough research and due diligence on asset classes, investment strategies, and managers
Making recommendations to the CIO (and ultimately to the Investment Review Committee) on manager additions or removals, as well as new investment ideas across all asset classes
Monitoring the performance of external investment managers and compliance with mandates
Managing, mentoring, and developing investment team staff
Monitoring and analyzing global financial markets and macroeconomics to identify market conditions and trends.
Working with the Operations Manager and operations team on investment implementation/execution, compliance reviews, performance reporting, accounting, and audit processes.
Preparing materials for investment review meetings, including plan and manager performance, market overviews and outlooks, investment education, and regulatory/compliance topics.
Advocating investment policies that are in the best overall interests of plan participants as well as HP and the international plans.

Qualifications

Qualifications
Undergraduate degree required
MBA or graduate degree desirable but not required
CFA designation highly desirable but not required
8+ years investment management experience in a decision making role as an asset owner
Multi-asset investment experience/exposure across traditional and alternative asset classes, and across investment strategies (i.e. qualitative and quantitative).

Essential Characteristics
Experience with and understanding of pension management topics and liability-driven investment strategies.
Experience with and knowledge of derivatives, particularly interest rate swaps, currency forwards, futures, and options
Outstanding analytical, communications, and advocacy skills
Must be able to travel internationally 2-4 weeks/year

Desirable Characteristics
Knowledge of corporate finance theory, economics, capital markets, risk management theory, asset allocation theory, investment management theory
Excel modeling skills and portfolio optimization experience
Leads by example, and “rolls up their sleeves” to work alongside the rest of the team, not just manage/delegate
Ability to think independently and critically with regards to investments
