Director Engineering Ultrasound R&D GE Sunnyvale

We are seeking a leader for the R&D team that is leading the industry pivot on software beamforming for automated breast ultrasound (ABUS). The leader will be a key member of the ABUS leadership team and will lead a technical disciplined team (e.g. Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, and Scientific) of team leaders and individuals to develop technology that delivers innovations to drive the growth of the ABUS business in new market creation.
The leader will be a key member of the ABUS leadership team and will lead a technical disciplined team (e.g. Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, and Scientific) of team leaders and individuals to develop technology that delivers innovations to drive the growth of the ABUS business in new market creation by ensuring that products meet customer requirements for product quality, cost, and driving new product development on-time, to right quality and cost.
Key sub-systems/skills utilized in ABUS product development require domain depth in one or more areas including ultrasound physics, software beamforming, breast imaging workflow, high performance computing and/or advanced algorithms.

Essential Responsibilities
1. Planning innovation pipeline and new features to develop best in class ABUS product portfolio
2. Setting the technology strategy and direction for the business for their respective engineering discipline; and driving continuous improvement of systems, products and processes to enable execution of that technology strategy
3. Functional leadership of the team, including recruitment, team/talent development, and skill set improvement, and mentoring
4. Resource assignment and prioritization including headcount and base cost budget
5. Instilling a rigorous approach to target costing for new products and driving cost out of existing products
6. Collaborating with global development teams in ultrasound design centers around the world to identify best practices, new-age technologies and opportunities for enhancing product portfolio.
7. Partnering with GE Digital to identify opportunities to advancing workflow, security and digital health features leveraging cloud, IoT and Predix technologies
8. Collaborating with Global Research Center teams to develop pipeline of innovations to advance product performance and applications including deep learning, visualization and advanced beamforming technologies.
9. Leading change through creative solutions to unstructured product and system design issues
10. Optimizing team’s participation in all phases of product development
11. Supporting existing products within Manufacturing, Sourcing, Service and Supplier Quality Engineering
Qualifikationen/Anforderungen Qualifications/Requirements
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Physics, or equivalent experience
2. 10 years relevant work experience
3. 3 years project management leadership experience
4. 5 years or more of direct people leadership experience
5. Must have work authorization to work in US without limitations
6. Must be willing to work from Sunnyvale, CA office

Eigenschaften Desired Characteristics
1. Masters or PhD in Engineering or Physics
2. 12+ years relevant industrial experience
3. Hands-on development expertise in one or more of following disciplines: Ultrasound physics, Software beamforming, High performance computing algorithms, GPU/CUDA based development, Visualization, Machine learning, UX/UI with Qt, DICOM connectivity.
4. Direct experience and domain depth in ultrasound physics and system design is highly desired.
5. Experience in working in healthcare industry and driving new product development across the product lifecycle of conceptualization, design controls, customer interface, QMS excellence, installed base management and end of product life is highly desired.
6. Experience in working in highly regulated environments with FDA on PMA track is high desired.
7. Proven ability to work cross-functionally. Collaboration skills across multi-disciplinary product development team are essential to success in role. Demonstrated manufacturing interface skills are highly desired.
8. Proven mentoring and coaching abilities. Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast paced dynamic environment, make tradeoffs, motivate & inspire others
9. Excellent communication, influencing skills and ability to gain buy-in for initiatives
