The Technical Architect within Discovery’s Education division will be responsible of for data architecture, warehousing, and data interfaces necessary for the products and services. He/She has proven experience for overseeing complex database systems.
1. Lead and develop data architectures for the Discovery Education product suite
2. Provide technical oversight of EDU developments most strategic, technical development initiatives, typically with a focus on meeting complex project commitments.
3. Work with IT, Product Development and other members of the organization in accomplishing business objectives.
4. Keeping current all documentation on process improvement projects so that all projects may be replicated in any data architecture initiative.
5. Determines database structural requirements by analyzing client operations, applications, and programming; reviewing objectives with clients; evaluating current systems;
6. Develops database solutions by designing proposed system; defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, security, back-up, and recovery specifications.
7. Installs database systems by developing flowcharts; applying optimum access techniques; coordinating installation actions; documents actions.
8. Maintains database performance by identifying and resolving production and application development problems; calculating optimum values for parameters; evaluating, integrating, and installing new releases; completing maintenance; answering user questions.
9. Provides database support by coding utilities, responding to user questions, and resolving problems.
10. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
11. Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed
Requirements:
* 7+ years’ experience leading the architecture of web development related processes and projects.
* Ability to lead technical projects/programs from planning, design and development to production. Demonstrable knowledge of working effectively with cross-functional teams and experience managing results in a highly matrixed organization is a must.
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a relational database environment
* Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor others either as direct reports or indirectly.
* Ability to work well under pressure.
* Bachelor degree in Business and/or Computer Science related field.
* Must have strong presentation and communication skills, written and verbal, and be comfortable communicating.
* Must be exceptionally organized, structured, methodical, and attentive to detail and possess a high-degree of follow-through.
* Must be a critical thinker with the ability to frame issues, articulate findings, and present optimal solutions.
* Strong business presence.
* Agile and Scrum experienced a positive.
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
