Director - Development - Fundraising - Enterprise Community Partners - Washington
Job description
Enterprise Community Partners is a recognized leader in helping communities across the US to create opportunities for low-income families through affordable housing. The Director of Development is a key national fundraising position that creates and develops funding relationships with foundations, individuals and corporations. Based in Washington, DC or in Enterprise’s Columbia, MD headquarters, the position involves frequent national travel and reports to the Vice President, Resource Development Group.
The initial assignment will be to raise funds primarily to support the Enterprise National Design Initiative. The Design Initiative is a first-of-its-kind program that provides architectural design expertise to local affordable housing developers, while empowering and challenging them to create higher quality homes and stronger communities for low-income families.
Enterprise has 10 offices across the United States with over 550 team members.
Job Responsibilities
• Work independently to secure gifts in the 5 to 7 figure range and build a diversified base of support.
• One key measure of near-term success will be the successful achievement of fundraising goals to meet the requirements for a $2.5M challenge grant from The Kendeda Fund (approximately $1.5M remaining).
• While leveraging the challenge grant is the primary assignment in the near term, the Director will build a broad base of support to sustain and enhance the program for the long term.
• Identify and secure new donors among HNWI, national, community and family foundations and, in some cases, corporations.
• Support Enterprise leaders in the stewardship of certain existing donors.
• Collaborate effectively across various Enterprise departments
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications
• A clear record of personal success in building relationships and personally securing gifts from high net worth individuals and foundations. Some corporate fundraising experience would also be beneficial.
• A high degree of personal confidence in representing creative (ideally architectural or design-related) solutions in a philanthropic fundraising capacity. Outstanding candidates with a proven architecture or design industry sales background and a firm commitment to non-profit fundraising may also be considered.
• The organizational, time management and prospect qualification skills needed to succeed in a fast-paced national fundraising environment.
• The people skills needed to succeed in a matrix organization with multiple people engaged in the fundraising process.
• Outstanding written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office tools and user experience with customer relationship management software.
• A minimum four-year college degree and at least five years of successful fundraising experience.
Additional experience:
Specific fundraising experience representing creative endeavors or architectural design solutions is highly preferred. Familiarity with the affordable housing sector, sustainable community development and/or transit oriented development would be very helpful but is not mandatory.
Willingness to travel, approximately 10%-15%.
