The Communications Director will drive the overall press strategy as well as day-to-day media relations for MSNBC, internally and externally including all programming in prime time and our day time hosts/correspondents. The ideal candidate will work aggressively to secure multi-platform PR opportunities in an effort to generate optimal publicity for the network’s programming, content and talent. The candidate will lead varied projects including writing releases, pitching stories, generating briefing notes, clip reports and Q&As. The candidate will also act as a spokesperson on behalf of relevant programs and talent.
Essential Responsibilities:
Manage the press strategy and execution of all MSNBC programming
Promote the weekly show content - especially exclusives - and the daily content online, communicate ratings data, and play a key role in building and positioning the brand
Develop strong positive relationships with talent and executive producers
Serve as a media strategist and spokesperson for all talent and programs, as well as news content and digital initiatives
Foster strong contacts with print, digital, and trade media
Pitch ideas and create promotional opportunities for talent and programs
Possess a strong understanding of and experience with social media
Coordinate media interviews, photo shoots and publicity opportunities
Generate press materials, including press releases, bios, talking points, tweets, and pitch letters
Work closely with executives, producers, NBC Standards and legal on approval of written materials
Qualifications/Requirements Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum 5 years relevant media relations and communications experience, ideally some political experience
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Willingness to travel and work after hours and on weekends
Should have a passion for news and journalism
Experience in talent relations
Experience in measurement
Ability to work across and balance multiple teams and projects
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or equivalent
Additional Job Requirements:
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
Must be 18 years or older
