Director Storyworks BBC Worldwide New York

Job Description:
The Director of BBC StoryWorks, North America, will be responsible for devising and producing high-touch advertising experiences for our key, premium clients on our digital platforms, primarily BBC.com, on BBC World News TV, and on their associated mobile and social products. They will translate our partners’ marketing and branding needs into custom solutions (content, creative, events, etc) that BBC can execute like no other publisher.

The Director will liaise with BBC’s U.S. & Canadian digital and TV salesforces and our multi-platform editorial team to deliver brilliant shareable ideas that equally delight clients and readers alike. They will represent the BBC brand and values to our clients and leverage these as the reason why working with BBC is strategic to their own business objectives.



Internally, the Director will ensure the standards of BBC’s commercial content and also that our policies enable nimble partnerships in the rapid evolution of the publishing world. They will manage a team of custom content editors, content strategists and designers and will be responsible for instilling in them the values referred to above.



Responsibilities:



Work with sales and editorial to develop brilliant and industry-shaking ideas for content solutions that will delight our clients and readers alike

Understand the needs of our highest-value clients better than they do themselves, and translate those needs into solutions that the BBC can provide like no other

Ensure that all content solutions – whether sponsored or branded – are up to the standards of the BBC’s own content output

Set KPIs for each execution in partnership with the client, then measure the success of these executions, and devise creative and innovative ways to drive performance

Be exceptionally well-versed in BBC editorial and commercial policies and know when the rules need to be followed and when we should challenge them

Ensure that all of our content solutions, whether produced internally or externally, conform to our standards and to the brief agreed upon with our client. Be accountable for everything that is produced in this content category, including on time and on budget delivery of client assets

Desired Skills and Experience
Skills & Experience:



7+ years in either digital sales or in a monetization strategy role is a must. An editorial background is a plus, and lacking that, candidates must demonstrate a strong editorial sensibility (final candidates will be interviewed and vetted by seasoned editors)

At least 5 years working in a digital media environment is essential

Exceptional diplomacy and a proven ability to manage a variety of stakeholders

Experience managing a team

Must be able to come up with creative solutions on the fly and to think on your feet generally

Experience managing and staying within budgets

Stature and ability to represent the company at the highest levels – internally and externally. Have the gravitas to change minds and eliminate long-held traditions as a barrier to change

Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills

Is inherently uncomfortable with too much conformity, but nonetheless understands corporate alignment has its place inside big media companies that operate in the real world.
