Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Senior Director – Corporate Communications is a key member of the WVI Communications senior leadership team which is responsible for shaping the Global Communications Strategy.
As a Senior Director In The Global Communications Team, This Role Fulfils Two Key Functions
As an organisational leader, s/he represents the Global Communications strategy and team as a whole, through collaboration with other Global Communications leaders, matrix management of specific Regional Communications Directors, and relationship management with specific GC and support office stakeholders.
As a functional leader, s/he delivers on specific elements of the Global Communications Strategy, through leadership of the functional team and relevant Tiger Teams.
The Senior Director takes the lead in those areas of Global Communications that relate to who we are as an organisation. S/he will lead the function that takes primary responsibility for the Communications elements of the World Vision brand, our Christian identity and how this is expressed internally and externally, proactive and reactive reputation and risk management, including organisational communications activities such as the WVI Annual Review and Transparency Report, and internal communications. He/she will act as adviser to Senior Executives (ExL/OpCom) on their Partnership-wide internal communications and will maintain a relationship with the President’s Communications Adviser (reflecting the President’s special role in embodying and representing the identity of the organisation).
The Senior Director, Corporate Communications maintains strong relationships with Global Resource Development and with stakeholders and other functions that play a key part in stewarding World Vision’s identity, and leads key Tiger Teams essential to delivering aspects of the Global Communications Strategy - likely to include a Tiger Team to develop a new organisational narrative and another to create evidence-based proof of the link between trust and reputation and 3”I”’s (impact, influence and income).
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Global Communications Team, build and maintain strategic relationships with designated Support Office executives and communications staff, designated Partnership/functional leaders and, through matrix management, designated RCDs, in order that the Global Communications Strategy is mutually shared and consistently applied.
Oversee the development and management of communications strategies and plans that promote World Vision’s identity and brand.
Leadership of World Visions proactive and reactive of reputation and risk management.
Leadership of partnership wide internal and change communications, including advise and guidance to ExL/OpCom.
Required
Bachelor degree level or equivalent career experience.
Minimum of ten years experience in management of teams or initiatives.
Minimum of five years experience in guiding and negotatiing with senior organisational leaders.
Mininimum five years experience in strategic communications.
Experience of working globally in a complex, multi-cultural environment.
Knowledge and experience of branding, change management or internal communications
Sound understanding of risk and crisis management.
Experience and understanding of communications theory and application to facilitate organisation change.
Evidence of strong leadership skills; experience of leading and managing teams and working in a matrix environment.
Experience in advising senior management on communications related issues.
Excellent interpersonal skills; able to effectively communicate to all levels in the organization and gain buy in at all levels.
The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
Preferred
Change management qualification.
Experience working with project management approaches.
Good understanding of use of metrics and insights to inform strategic planning and implementation.
Multi-lingual ability an advantage.
Crisis communications experience.
