Director - Special Events and Catering - NBCUniversal - Universal City
Job description
The Director of Special Events and Catering at Universal Studios Hollywood is responsible for the effective planning, financial integrity and successful execution of all events. In addition, they are responsible for all event food and beverage elements from budgeting, menu planning and successful partnership with Wolfgang Puck catering.
*Responsible for overseeing the coordination of all events held in the Theme Park
*Work effectively with all internal team members to ensure that event needs are clearly communicated and correctly coordinated.
*Onsite management of event to ensure that both internal and external partners are providing all elements as outlined in the event contract.
*Liaise on an on-going basis with the Sales Department to ensure all client needs and requirements can be met. *Clear communication of event needs to operating partners through creation of event prospectus and catering BEO.
*Holds event management team accountable for achieving event profitability while maintaining high customer service standards.
*Coordinate with the VP of Special Events to ensure event profitability and successful event margin management
*Develops working relationships with outside vendors and establishes prices and service agreements to enhance the event experience and to increase additional revenue opportunities for the property.
*Encourages calculated risk-taking to generate incremental revenue and deliver excellent guest service.
*Responsible for the successful execution and planning of all event related food and beverage needs.
*Develop banquet menus pricing and revenue minimums using current competitive data.
*Insuring the highest food and beverage quality and proper presentation by overseeing all operations aspects of special events including staffing levels, equipment maintenance, billing, event layout, communication and teamwork to ensure success from an operational and guest perspective.
*Partner with Catering Chef and Executive Chef with menu design and development.
*Uphold Wolfgang Puck service and food presentation standards. Make recommendations and implement best practices.
*Manage inventory and ensure accurate par levels are established and controls are improved *Provide accurate and timely catering costings
*Participate in daily business review meeting, sales meetings and management meetings.
*Communicates a clear and consistent message regarding departmental goals to produce desired results.
*Creates and achieves the annual Special Events and Catering budget.
*Creates an atmosphere in all event management operations areas that meets or exceeds guest expectations.
* Managing oversight of the service staff including training & development, scheduling and disciplinary action.
*Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the Globe Theatre, a 9,600 square foot ball room and all of its equipment and facilities.
Requirements:
*5-8 years of experience within the food and beverage field, specifically in a high volume catering operation.
*The candidate must possess at least 5 years of event production and/or design experience. Have a keen understanding of finance as it relates to special event costing and close-outs and be able to demonstrate that knowledge.
*Must have an operations background including inventory control, training and development of staff.
*Must be available to work weekends, early mornings and late into the evening.
Desired Skills/Characteristics:
*Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university is preferred.
*Strong communication skills, a demonstrable commitment to teamwork and computer literacy are essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to effectively interact with all levels across an organization. This is a hands-on position involving regular collaboration with the senior executives and operational executives.
*Strong problem solving and project management skills, including the ability to juggle many priorities at the same time; strong attention to detail.
*Strong leadership and management skills; set and communicate goals, measure accomplishments, hold team accountable, and give useful feedback; delegate and develop; keeps people informed and provides effective coaching.
*Ability to achieve results through the flawless execution of strategies and objectives.
*Excellent management skills in leading a diverse team and working under tight and fast track deadlines.
*Strong P+L experience, command of budgeting and costs controls
