Director - Public Policy - Apple - Santa Clara


Job description
The Director of Public Policy is responsible for the developing Apple’s worldwide Public Policy strategies.
This person will be responsible for identifying and analyzing stakeholder input, legal requirements and constraints, past Apple statements, business interests, and current policy trends to make recommendations regarding current and future Apple policy. The Director of Public Policy will be responsible for the development and execution of proactive plans and projects, objectives, communications, and strategies that align Apple’s business operations with domestic and international requirements and administrative policies.


Key Responsibilities

Develop and steer Apple’s public policy agenda. Monitor the international legislative/regulatory environment with the objective of providing Apple’s management with sophisticated information and options on dealing with developments to ensure the success of Apple’s Public Policy strategies
Monitor, analyze and prioritize emerging regulatory and legislative issues affecting Apple and its business ; consult with middle and senior level management across the organization to determine the impact on business practices, operational costs and efficiencies, and profitability
Daily responsibilities will include preparing position papers, testimony and correspondence to promote Apple's positions on proposed policies
Represent Apple either as a participant or advisor at public hearings and public meetings
Implement strategies that ensure that participation in various international trade associations is maximized
Monitor, analyze and research all relevant pieces of legislation and policy to provide or facilitate oral and written testimony in accordance with Apple policy
Create official and non-official communications with integrity and consistency
Synthesize mass amounts of information to support the development and execution of policy outcomes
Manage a portfolio of policy issues; prepare recommendations on policy positions and proposed courses of action for company executives

Relationships

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and communities
Experience of establishing external stakeholder groups to advance policy goals
Demonstrated ability to work with internal and external cross-functional teams
Ability to work independently and without direction as well as collaboratively with colleagues in such varied positions as marketing, public relations, operations and legal
Education Details
Bachelor’s degree in political science or related field, and a minimum of 15 years relevant work experience
Master’s Degree or law degree preferred

Key Qualifications

Minimum 15 years of experience in government or government relations function with a successful track record of being a leader in policy setting environments such as in-house at a corporation, trade association, special interest group, a relevant committee on Capitol Hill or in a relevant Department, Embassy or Agency
Strong understanding of the legislative and political environments around the world impacting company policy and business activities
Strong leadership, political and organizational skills and the ability to successfully influence the execution of policy, political and business objectives
Experience developing and executing public affairs campaigns, both independently and in conjunction with industry trade associations
Experience in implementing projects with defined outcomes in government, government affairs, public affairs or in a policy role
Strong executive presence with an entrepreneurial spirit and sound business judgment, with depth and expertise in government affairs; knowledge of government rules, regulations, codes of conduct, legislative process and political landscape
Must be a self starter and strong team player with extensive experience working in a project-team environment managing a portfolio of public policy programs; skilled at managing cross-functional teams
Requires an individual capable of working in a fast paced diverse environment with excellent presentation skills and a demonstrated ability to work on time-sensitive matters with internal and external constituents
Must possess strong negotiation and consensus building skills
Excellent strategic thinker with strong analytical abilities and advanced business acumen to formulate, develop and execute on agreed strategies
Superb written and oral communications skills with an expert ability to interpret and succinctly communicate complex public policies
Ability to interact professionally and comfortably in an executive environment and provide counsel to senior executives and staff
