Job description
The CAPSTONE Senior Director leads three senior education programs - CAPSTONE, KEYSTONE, and PINNACLE; manages a multi-million dollar organizational budget in support of the programs; and plans, resources, executes, assesses and refines academic programs. This special component consists of the programs which prepare senior military and civilian leadership to anticipate challenges, understand the environment and find solutions working in high level positions in a joint and/or interagency setting.
This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 3 years with the possibility for extension. The first 18 months are in a probationary status.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To Qualify For This Position, You Must Possess The Following
A masters degree is required; however, a doctoral degree or equivalent terminal or professional degree in an appropriate discipline is preferred.
Demonstrated success in building teams and leading collaboratively, working effectively with others in a diverse environment; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with College personnel and representatives of various external agencies.
Demonstrated ability for innovation, critical, strategic, and analytical skills, and operate with the highest standards of personal and professional conduct.
Demonstrated ability to act with discretion, maintain confidentiality and professional demeanor at all times
Successful record of leadership and achievement in managing senior level military and/or civilian employees
Desired Qualifications
Experience with cutting edge concepts in executive level leader development and developing leaders of change and innovation.
DUTIES:
The Senior Director plans and manages the highest level senior leader development programs for military officers and select civilian officials/non-commissioned officers in national strategy and policy analysis for the Department of Defense.
The Senior Director has course planning, participation, and resourcing responsibilities for the Capstone, Keystone and Pinnacle programs.
Provides direct input to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff via the President, NDU and Joint Staff Director of Joint Force Development (DJ7) on the structure, scheduling objectives and scope of the Capstone/Keystone/Pinnacle programs for the upcoming year.
Prepares and delivers lectures and seminars of instruction for the Capstone Fellows as well as NDU components, other DOD and USG academic institutions, and the foreign National Defense Universities that desire to emulate the Capstone program.
As a member of NDUs senior team, the Senior Director participates in all coordination efforts related to overall policies and procedures of the University and is a principal participant in the decision making apparatus of the University structure.
The incumbent participates with NDU leadership and provides recommendations on appropriate budget and programming activities for NDU across the enterprise. Recommends budget, manpower, and other resource changes based on corporate-level knowledge of current and long-term priorities for leader development.
