Director - Cable Programming Technology - NBCUniversal - New York
Job description
The Director of Cable Programming Technology will be an integral member of the Cable Entertainment Technology team, which manages the Technology portfolio that supports NBCUniversal’s Cable Entertainment Group (comprising of USA, Syfy, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, Esquire, among others). The technology portfolio consists of custom- and vendor-supported products that support the various production, marketing, and programming departments.
The Director will define and execute the technology strategy to support the Programming departments at each network within the NBCU Cable Entertainment portfolio. This leader will define the technology needs for the linear and non-linear convergence in terms of rights, scheduling, and financials. The successful candidate should have strong interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to lead a team of three technical Project Managers and Business Analysts to execute the defined strategy.
Specific responsibilities include –
• Manage tactical and strategic technology portfolio to support each network’s Programming departments (Scheduling and Finance);
• Work with peers outside of Cable Entertainment (e.g. Sports, Broadcast) to achieve technological and information synergies;
• Build and maintain a data warehouse to store scheduling and finance data;
• Evolve current MicroStrategy business intelligence product which tracks financial profitability of a network’s titles;
• Coach and develop direct reports in project management, technical processes, and business engagement;
• Lead in a matrix team where technical on-/off-shore development resources are members of another platform team;
• Establish and maintain relationships with non-technical business leaders and their teams;
• Overseeing the performance, health, and budget for projects, minor enhancements, and keep-the-lights-on support;
• Become a subject matter expert in the systems and business processes that he/she is supporting;
• Identifying new opportunities, tools, and services to solve business challenges;
• Drive project delivery by collaborating with internal teams (infrastructure, application, and client services), business unit teams, and external vendors;
• Manage the annual SOX controllership process;
• Occasional off-hours support may be necessary to address outages or pressing system issues.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years’ experience within Information Technology roles related to software development;
• 5+ years’ experience in a client-facing role;
• 5+ years’ experience in project management with delivery accountability;
• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; able to communicate effectively with customers in high-pressure situations;
• Self-starter that demonstrates initiative and ability to work with little supervision
Desired Skills and Experience
• Experience in US Media & Entertainment environment preferred;
• Experience with sales, traffic, and other TV systems;
• Experience with financial systems;
• Collaborative team player accustomed to working within and across groups;
• Experience with custom developed solutions;
• Experience in MicroStrategy or similar business intelligence toolset;
• Experience managing 3rd party team resources as well as an extended team of resources;
• Experience with .NET and Microsoft SQL platforms
• Ability to manage through competing/conflicting requests and obtain consensus;
• Strong analytical and process-oriented approach; Ability to apply structure to complex problems;
• Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment;
• Experience in Project Management with delivery accountability;
• Experience in budgeting and proposal efforts by assisting in project scoping, cost-benefit analyses, and level of effort assessments
