Director - Public Relations - Tech - Oracle - Redwood Shores


Job description
The Director of Technology PR will report to the Head of Public Relations, Global Products and Services. This HQ-based role oversees public relations for Oracle Technology and combines both traditional and social media tools to reach its influencer communities.

Position Description
The Director of PR will drive global public relations for Oracle through a mix of news, thought-leadership and social media strategies. S/he will manage a team and guide global PR counterparts toward a consistent set of messaging and an overall communication strategy. S/he will need to balance specific business unit marketing goals with overall corporate priorities. A combination of strategic thinking and results-oriented execution is essential for this position.

The Director of Oracle Technology Public Relations will lead a team that is a critical to communicating product messaging, strategy, and functionality. The Director will initiate and foster relationships with other groups, and work with the Development, Corporate & Product Marketing teams to help ensure successful product launches based on corporate priorities.

Key Responsibilities
Act as strategic communications advisor to develop the overall communications plan aligned with the business vision, mission, and key priorities
Coordinate closely with Product Communications to convey core messaging with broader Global Communications functions for initiatives, major issues, and the development of communications documents
Provide strategic communications counsel to key SVP-1 and/or -2 business leaders, where appropriate
Lead Tech Team to address key issues as they arise
Develop external communications platforms
Provide input to quarterly earnings' documents, based on business needs (as required)
Provide strategic counsel in close coordination with internal PR and external PR agency teams to manage proactive and reactive communications

External:
Issues Management – key member of rapid response team to ensure coordination within business and Corporate PR team
Product communications – support team to develop communications plan/initiatives for priority growth products in line with business strategies
Link business insights and direction to the work of the Applications, Corporate, Content, Digital/SoMe and Tech teams
Executive platform – provide guidance on key external activities for select leadership team members and support content development as necessary
Ensure consistent and broad communications support/alignment for key strategic initiatives
Manage Tech PR agency budget; create, execute and audit monthly SOW

Internal:
Work with internal team to determine key communications vehicles needed to support business objectives
Provide guidance on content development as needed and appropriate
Work with team to develop metrics to evaluate effectiveness of communications messages and vehicles

Media Relations:
Coordinate and provide strategic counsel for targeted media outreach on proactive and reactive issues
Mentor team to proactive pitch and tell narratives (storytelling)
Partner with Analyst Relations and Corporate PR teams to identify key business executives spokespersons; facilitate media training
Drive press releases, standby statements, Q&As, key message documents with appropriate team members

Enabling Functions:
Provide counsel to change management and significant organizational announcements (in conjunction with internal communications)
Provide business perspective and support core team for business development announcements

Desired Skills and Experience
Preferred Qualifications include:
Minimum 12-15 years of PR experience; combination of agency and in-house
5 years experience directly managing people, leading and building teams, including virtual teams
Enterprise software/technology background
