Creative Director - Copy - Pharma - Wunderman - New York


Job description
As a key member of the creative management team, the Creative Director is responsible and accountable for managing the overall quality, vision, innovation and execution of all creative deliverables produced on their account(s). Leading integrated, multi-discipline teams, the CD ensures that the work is aligned with the client’s marketing strategy, reflects the brand’s equities and meets the objectives as defined in the creative briefs. The CD is ultimately accountable for managing the creative development and execution processes that ensure each project meets timelines and budgets.

The CD works closely with the CCO and ECD to provide leadership and guidance to the creative department. In this capacity, the CD takes a primary role in building, mentoring and managing integrated teams of art directors, copywriters and other creative disciplines with a diverse set of skills, abilities and experience. Specific responsibilities in this area include interviewing potential candidates, helping train new employees; actively mentoring creative teams and leading the performance review process.


The CD is expected to effectively partner with the other discipline leads (account, program management, technology, etc) to foster an environment of teamwork and collaboration on their accounts and within the agency overall. Establish and maintain positive relationships with partner agency creative teams.

In addition, the CD plays a strong leadership role in new business development and in identifying opportunities to grow existing businesses organically. He or she will take responsibility for representing and communicating Wunderman’s creative and business vision, company philosophy, methodology and capabilities to current and potential clients, the industry and to the general public.

Desired Skills and Experience
The CD is expected to fulfill the duties and responsibilities below in the areas of Creative Leadership, Team Management/Development, and Account and Project Services Delivery (not limited to the following):

Creative Leadership

Ultimately accountable for the quality, strategy and integrity of all creative deliverables
Lead the overall creative vision and development process on account(s)
Push the creative envelope, continually raising the bar on the quality of Wunderman’s creative and delivering successful business solutions for our clients
Keep Wunderman’s creative “on the map” (recognition via awards, events, media, industry buzz, publishing articles, etc); infuse a true creative experience in our culture.
Monitor trends in the digital, marketing, design and advertising industries to stay current and position Wunderman for success as an industry leader
Improve accountability across creative teams through management and process improvement
Ensure that the creative team understands and delivers what is needed on the projects.

Team Management/Development

Train, manage, mentor and coach a diverse group of creative professionals with varying skill levels
Organize creative team with appropriate structures, teams, experience levels, diversity of skills, etc. Plan, assign, schedule and direct work.
Interview potential candidates and provide feedback to the ECD and HR
Monitor team performance and complete scheduled performance reviews
Address team complaints and help resolve personnel problems
Help build morale and create a positive work environment

Account and Project Services Delivery

Provide creative leadership in client and agency partners relationships
Partner with account and project management leaders to identify creative objectives and strategies; provide input into creative briefs
Participate in project estimation and resource allocation processes
Manage creative staff across projects, maximizing efficiency, quality of work, and profitability
Meet internal and external deadlines and be proactive in communications
Ensure appropriate cross discipline interaction, communication, integration and collaboration to share learnings and further best practices

Other

Support the new business teams in winning new accounts by participating in the pitch process as needed
Actively engage in increasing our industry profile through public speaking, judging, teaching, or other industry activities
Provide process suggestions and solutions for the Creative department

Requirements
Specific knowledge and skills include but are not limited to the following:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a creative discipline is required
10+ yrs of professional experience, including a minimum of six years as a senior level professional in at least two of the following areas: advertising, interactive advertising, direct mail, website development, multimedia, promotions, mobile or social marketing.
Creativity, latitude, flexibility, and tenacity.
Ability to lead and critique creative in both copy and design disciplines
Ability to inspire and motivate teams to reach creative excellence and performance goals
Strong client-facing experience and presentation skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines.
Superior attention to detail.
Ability to budget and estimate project hours accurately
Exceptional problem solving skills
Must be willing to travel for client calls as needed.
