Job description
Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. is a world leader in Memory, System LSI and LCD technologies. We are currently looking for a Director of Firmware Applications Engineering to join our team in San Jose, CA. We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, and hands on engineering manager to lead the debug and support of our cutting edge SAS and NVM Express SSD products at major OEM and datacenter customers.
Responsibilities:
Grow and manage a team of software/firmware application engineers to analyze, debug, and resolve software and firmware issues observed at domestic and international customer sites as well as at local and overseas development centers.
Drive the triage and root cause of system, driver, and device firmware issues at customer sites through hands-on leadership of the application engineering team as well as with our customers and partners.
Collaborate with core development teams to debug software and firmware issues, and to drive new features, enhancements and issue resolution through customer integration and qualification.
Frequent travel to both domestic and international customer sites as well as overseas development centers.
Flexibly and dynamically move between host software and device firmware development and debug scenarios.
Provide hands-on, proactive, and first responder customer support to ensure the successful adoption and integration of cutting edge Samsung SAS and NVM Express SSD products.
Desired Skills and Experience
BS in Computer/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science, and 15 years of relevant experience in software and/or firmware or a MS Computer/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science is required.
Direct experience in managing an engineering team supporting storage devices to major server and storage OEM and ODM customers is required.
Have significant direct experience with software, drivers and firmware in a storage technology such as NVMe, PCIe, SAS/SATA, SCSI, or Fibre Channel.
Strong prior experience in C/C++ for drivers or embedded systems is required.
Hands on experience with UART/JTAG/ICE debuggers, firmware debugging and protocol analyzers, is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to work as a both a leader and a team player, as part of a local and globally distributed team.
Good oral and written skills for communication and documentation of technical information
Open to frequent and possible extended domestic and/or international travel.
Is comfortable working in a multinational environment and understands how to leverage cultural diversity.
Ability to work well with internal and external customers
