Director - Applications Engineering - ClariPhy Communications - Los Altos
Job description
The Director, Applications Engineering will be a highly technical hands-on leader that manages the successful integration of ClariPhy products into customer platforms. The Director will lead a team of experienced Applications Engineers as they engage customers from the pre-sales process through production.
The applications engineering team is responsible for generation of datasheets and other technical collateral; explanation of product features and benefits; matching customer requirements to company products; supporting use of evaluation boards in customer labs; reviewing customer schematic and layout designs before commitment to fabrication; and all aspects of customer technical support.
The ideal candidate will be capable of in-depth diagnostics and fault isolation of highly complex ASICs integrated in network and telecom equipment. Experience in one of the following areas is essential: hands-on manager of applications at a semiconductor company; hardware design and development at an optical module company utilizing coherent optical ASICs; or hardware design and development of coherent optical line cards at a telecom or networking system company. It is important that the candidate have experience taking a product all the way to production.
As the Director, Applications Engineering, you will:
Manage all aspects of technical customer support
Work closely with sales and engineering to secure new design wins
Input to the product definition process to influence the product roadmap
Recruit and manage the applications engineering team
Define best processes for customer support and product documentation
Provide technical mentoring to members of the applications engineering team
Develop and foster enduring customer relationships that grow ClariPhy’s business
Desired Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate has 10 to 15+ years’ experience in the semiconductor industry, and demonstrated leadership working with high-speed digital and mixed signal electronics, including complex DSP solutions. Experience with coherent optical communication products is highly desirable. Additional areas of desired expertise and experience include:
OTN (G.709) and 100 Gigabit ethernet
Hardware/firmware bringup, including the use of GUIs and scripts for hardware control and automation
Programming of complex hardware devices and debugging complex problems
Bench level testing using equipment such as digital oscilloscopes, digital communications analyzers, bit-error-rate testers, signal generators, network testers, optical and RF spectrum analyzers, fiber optic equipment, and custom test/evaluation boards
Software development (embedded firmare and drivers in C, C++, or assembly)
Designing circuitry using RTL and/or programming FPGAs
Experience designing PCB boards for coherent optical linecards or modules is highly desirable.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering) is required, and advanced degree is preferred.
Working knowledge of foreign language (Mandarin, Japanese, and/or Spanish) is desirable.
