Job Description
Seeking thought leader to craft the vision and creation of a world class Optical Payload Center. Shape the future by leading a collaborative consortium of scientists, technologists and engineers focused on research and development to design, develop and deliver the most advanced passive and active optical payloads. Your team will expand the portfolio by delivering cutting edge technology and products serving new mission capabilities for the global marketplace.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Pioneer the development of a world class Optical Payloads Center of Excellence to include:

o Innovative environment consisting of scientists, technologists and engineers performing path finding research, technology development & CRAD

o Design and deliver affordable mission enabling capabilities raising the bar within the industry

o Provide organizational drive focused on leveraging business synergy to achieve a lower internal product cost structure and maximize efficiency.

o Technical, schedule and cost project management of critical Optical products and payloads through all of the product lifecycle from concept development to delivery.

o Leverage the digital tapestry and phenomenology in conceptual design through production.

• Identify and integrate Optical Payload technical concepts, mission assessments, technology, space and ground solutions into a cohesive and competitive approach for SSC.

• Drive new technology selection and first article development, related to Optical Payloads, subsystems and components.

• Support technology and mission analysis investment assessments and ensuring integration into technology roadmaps. Enable common usage of qualified product designs across multiple applications in SSC, thereby strengthening designs and facilitating knowledge sharing of successful past work performed with the LOBs, suppliers and other LM companies.

• Maintain technical integrity of the LOB/Program design baselines, incorporation of best practices, and optimum technical design.

• Demonstrate Full Spectrum Leadership through leading and scaling the Space Systems Company (SSC) Optical Payload Engineering organization.

• Work collaboratively with the LOB/Program Executives and leadership to:

o Identify and propagate design technology selection and best-practices

o Ensure technical domain expertise of the entire team, drive process and tool development and deployment,

o Resolve critical technical issues, support new business initiatives,

o Ensure standard technical processes are in use on programs,

o Manage staffing requirements and sustain engineering capabilities and preserve critical skills,

o Support IRAD investment strategy and strategic development of Optical Payloads,

o Support proposals as required, Red Teams and INARs

Basic Qualifications
•15 years of technical and leadership experience with demonstrated expertise in Optical Payloads products and systems, development, anomaly troubleshooting and production of hardware.

•Demonstrated experience in driving technology investment and development resulting in new products/business opportunities.

•Must have proven Full Spectrum Leadership skills and experience leading employees to perform productively and foster relationships in a cross-functional team environment

•Successful experience leading capture efforts to secure new business including IRAD and CRADs.

•Proposal writing experience thru the S/C level with customer knowledge and interface.

•Experience managing technical, schedule and cost for a program or product.

•Excellent communications skills both verbal and written with the proven ability to communicate to all levels internally and externally.

•Demonstrated ability to drive closure and resolve technical issues/challenges.

•Demonstrated ability to develop technical talent and to build technical pipelines to sustain technical expertise within the organization.

•Must have the ability to obtain SCI and Top Secret clearance levels.
