Director - Strategic Insights & Research - Universal Music Group - Santa Monica

Universal Music Group Distribution (UMGD) is currently seeking a Director, Strategic Insights & Research to join our Santa Monica, CA, based team.

JOB SCOPE: The Director will serve as a key resource for the Vice President; on all consumer research projects across the department that help develop insights into the relationship between UMG and consumers.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
• Serve as the day-to-day operations lead of the Strategic Insights & Research team, proposing department efficiencies and activating/implementing them within day-to-day activities, so that that the team can be as efficient as possible to meet the high performance demand of UMG business units and labels
• Work with direct reports to support projects and ensure accuracy, as well as providing training, guidance, and mentorship to groom future research managers for the team
• Direct primary and secondary consumer research, marketing analytics, and measurement activities day-to-day for the department
• Oversee multiple consumer insights and strategic market research projects to meet critical timelines, including questionnaire design, data analysis, writing analyses of marketing/consumer insights data, and vendor management
• Define and translate project goals into a holistic insights plan (short and long-term) with actionable strategies, overseeing entire project lifecycle until completion
• Translate strategic research needs into high detailed projects; prioritize workload, ensure high quality execution of projects and on-time
• Demonstrate excellent strategic skills in writing or reviewing studies and reports, converting research findings into actionable and value-driving insights (“connecting the dots”)
• Work with industry and vendor experts to stay abreast of new developments in insights, tools, and syndicated data advancement, and leverage supplier relationships to achieve additional learnings as well as problem-solving to encourage vendor improvement of products/tools
• Establish and maintain communications with labels and internal teams, recognizing nuances that define each and know how to integrate into work approach
• Lead structured insight-driven innovation sessions to stimulate internal idea generation
• Provide a thorough understanding of changing consumer needs and industry trends
• Seek and utilize innovative research and methodologies on an ongoing basis to gain a better understanding of the customers and aid in identifying business-building opportunities
• Provide high level analysis and interpretation of industry trends and other relevant information to assist in the development of short and long term strategy development

Desired Skills and Experience
• Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field desired
• 5-7 years deep research experience at consumer- focused companies, experience in Entertainment/Media highly desired
• 2-3 years of team management experience
• Proven success in implementing process change within a department
• Aptitude for problem solving is a must
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Able to prioritize and multi-task
• Deep understanding of consumer research tools
