Job description
Director, Strategic Planning
Develop, own and execute the business, innovation and go-to-market strategy for the Global OTC Business Unit supporting a 3-5 billion dollar business. Drive strategic thinking across the organization and lead the development of annual strategic plans discussed at the Executive Committee level.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set the overall strategy and priorities for the Global OTC Business Unit:
o Create, maintain and execute overall strategy for a global 3-5 billion dollar business
o Full responsibility for the annual strategic planning process with all markets and functions and providing business planning support as needed
o Manage and align regional strategic planners and ensure execution of plans at local level
o Apply broad business knowledge and understanding of market dynamics to identify opportunities for growth or operational excellence
o Translate strategies into actionable plans and optimize resource allocations across geographies and functions
o Drive Global Leadership Team support for global strategy and 5 year strategic/financial plan. Align organizational objectives and priorities with long-term strategy
o Communicate strategy and priorities to the broader organization.
o Ensure execution of strategic plan in collaboration with the Global Leadership Team
o Build center of excellence in strategic planning and act as expert resource for others
• Actively drive, as a member of a committee and work with other Global Leadership Team members on critical strategic initiatives as needed, such as:
o Global Business Unit leadership meetings
o Incubators/new growth opportunities
o Major organizational change initiatives, such as R&D/Marketing transformation efforts
o Corporate restructurings , such as downsizings and reorganizations
o M&A/Divestitures
• Prepare business updates and presentations for senior Novartis management (Group, Division) as needed , such as Novartis OTC response to competitive threats
• Effectively manage Global/Regional Strategic Planning group and set priorities to ensure team has greatest impact on the company's strategy
• Directly manage one Associate Director, Strategic Planning
Desired Skills and Experience
Minimum requirements Education: MBA
Experience
• 15+ years experience, ideally in consulting with a top tier consulting firm and/or relevant pharmaceutical or consumer products industry experience
• Demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking and strategic planning and outstanding leadership and influence skills
• Experience effectively leading global teams in a fast paced, high growth matrix organization
• Experience using networks and political savvy to drive and influence change
• Experience developing long term strategic plans
• Experience creating and persuasively delivering presentations to senior level executives
• Experience building strong relationships across cross-functional teams
Must be able to travel 10-15%
