Director - Public and Media Relations - Spirit Airlines - Miami


Job description
Purpose: Build shareholder and company value by communicating with customers through the media to create understanding of and advocacy for Spirit, while working collaboratively to ensure aligned communication with all stakeholders (team members, investors, suppliers, etc.). Ensure our intended positioning is clearly and effectively communicated by developing and executing a strategic PR/media plan encompassing traditional and new media, while also effectively managing situational issues and opportunities. Ensure Spirit effectively listens to, understands and acts upon media and social network impressions/insights.

PR and Media Strategy:Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to effectively communicate Spirit's business model and positioning (Spirit Way/Brand) through traditional, new and social media. Iterate to continuously improve.
Press Releases/Media Statements:Develop and execute press release and media statement messaging to build awareness and understanding of Spirit's unique business model and customer benefits, new market/new route developments, company news and policies, and other news announcements. Ensure messaging is consistent with our overall brand and vision and is understandable by all.
Media Inquiries:Serve as central and sole clearinghouse for all media seeking comment or information from the company. Respond to all media inquiries in a timely manner assisting them in accurately reporting on the company in a way that is consistent with our messaging.
Media Interviews/Speaking Engagements/Presentations/Press Conferences:Coordinate media interviews, speaking engagements and press conferences to ensure Spirit's message is shared and understood. Develop talking points (and presentations when applicable) and prepare presenter(s) for each event.
Customer Relations/Reservations Communications:Assist front-line customer-facing areas of the company, i.e. customer relations, reservations, stations, inflight, etc., in ensuring they have tools and messaging for assisting customers that is consistent with Spirit's overall messaging and image.
IROPs/Crisis Communications:Effectively manage and present accurate and timely information reflecting Spirit's policies and actions during and following IROPs and crisis situations. Work closely with other departments, i.e. OCC, operations, stations, inflight, marketing, legal, customer service, etc., when researching and fact checking messaging for accuracy. Develop/drill/update Crisis Communications Emergency Response Plan in alignment with overall company Emergency Response Plan.
Communications Alignment: Work with the Communications Team (Investor, Internal and External) to ensure effective, aligned messaging across all stakeholders.

Functional Competencies

Experience developing and executing all-encompassing communications strategies that include all channels of communication for external stakeholders.
Expertise in message development and execution.
Expertise in executing press conferences and media/special events.
Strong capability in written and verbal communications.
Proficient at Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Experience using online media relations database software systems.

Desired Skills and Experience
Education/Experience Requirements - Required

Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism or related major.
Minimum of 8 - 10 years experience in corporate communications.

Education/Experience Requirements - Preferred

Master's Degree/MBA in a related field.
Bilingual English and Spanish.
