Director - Systems Architecture - Audience - Mountain View


Job description

The Director of System Architecture will collaborate with Marketing, RTOS Firmware, DSP Algorithms, Digital and Analog VLSI, and Quality Assurance groups to architect, specify, and review System-On-Chip hardware and software integrated into mobile devices. While the central focus of this position will be mobile platform sensors and their integration into the complete context aware solution, participation in the architecture and review of audio and other mobile platforms subsystems will be frequent. Strong system architecture experience and understanding of sensor algorithms, along with the ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed engineering teams, is essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

Own the sensor processing subsystem architecture to deliver revolutionary sensor fusion and context aware performance with extreme power efficiency.
Participate in the development of the overall systems architecture for advanced mobile SOCs.
Drive future architectures to efficiently support key algorithms
Take a leadership role in the Audience technology roadmap.
Work closely with hardware, firmware and internal and partner algorithm teams, evaluating architectural trade-offs to create optimal algorithmic, firmware, and hardware implementations
Develop, analyze, negotiate and document use-case and cross-functional requirements ensuring system performance
Oversee, coordinate, and consolidate detailed contributions of sub-system technical leads and architects
Define features, model and simulate, and write specifications for SOC modules
Support teams throughout development phases including design, implementation, integration, testing, and production ramp up.
Monitor and understand trends of key technologies potentially impacting the evolution of sensor system and context aware architectures.
Monitor and understand the competitive landscape and potential disruptive technologies to evolve the system architecture for future generations
Engage with key customers to understand current and future technical requirements

Education:

A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science of equivalent industry experience is required.

Desired Skills and Experience

Skills:

A solid background in computer architecture and digital signal processing is required.
Functional and up-to-date knowledge of existing commercial tablet, personal computer, and mobile phone hardware and software architectures and products is required.
Experience in real-time audio DSP is a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills in written and verbal communications with both technical and non-technical personnel
Demonstrated ability to establish collaborative alliances with peers and team leaders across multiple departments
Strong familiarity with mathematical analysis, modeling, simulation, and algorithm development
Strong organizational and logical analysis skills
Multi-disciplinary understanding of electronic, mechanical and physics fundamentals.
Ability to work at high level of abstraction and translate to concrete low-level details as required.
