Job Description

Overview
This position is responsible for the leadership and direction of Visa Treasury Settlement and related strategic system architecture initiatives. Such efforts include multiple, complex Settlement funds transfer projects which are merging together. These Treasury Settlement projects require changes to existing technical interfaces or systems, new business processes, as well as client and/or employee training/readiness. In parallel to the Treasury application development will be implementations of new and existing Settlement products and services for the entire globe, multiple individual countries, and specific products. Projects are typically multi-disciplinary across Visa lines of business and span multiple time-zones. The focus is 60% business and 40% IT/PM/BA skills.

Treasury Settlement has embarked on a multi-year initiative to substantially enhance its settlement capabilities. These pursuits are causing Treasury Settlement’s activities to touch an increasing variety of internal and external IT and business units. As a result, these projects have greater integration, communication, and coordination requirements. Project stakeholders typically have only limited knowledge of the overall goals, functionality, and interrelationships. The successful Leader candidate will provide project participants with the strategic direction, organization, and guidance to assemble an effective effort and successful result. The Leader must immerse them self in the business of both broader initiatives and individual projects in order to ensure that they are designed and managed effectively. They will develop sufficient knowledge of the projects’ business and technical substance and issues so that there is an overall understanding and integration of project components. This will require hands-on involvement, natural curiosity, and a thirst for knowledge. The Leader will gain sufficient business and technical understanding in order to project the personal credibility that such knowledge can create. To be successful, the Leader will be a catalyst for change who can cultivate the creativity necessary to find the needed approaches and solutions.

This position requires strong project management, analytic, and quantitative skills along with a good mix of reporting, data analysis and business problem solving skills. The Leader will provide the necessary practical business perspective and work with stakeholders to identify key issues, and facilitate the process to produce commercially viable solutions that meet Visa’s business needs. The role requires a proven self starter with 8 – 10 years of experience who has the ability to navigate across a global matrix organization in a continually changing environment, and who will relish the challenge of working in a complex and culturally diverse organization.

Job description The Senior Business Leader - Settlement Enhancement operates as part of Visa’s Treasury Settlement department to support its world-wide responsibilities to develop and implement in-country and global settlement funds transfer solutions. The Senior Business Leader will report to the head of Treasury Settlement. The role is a key appointment and requires business knowledge of international payments. It provides a great opportunity for someone who wishes to use their broad IT knowledge to develop business solutions which will deliver strategic revenue growth while using their project management and business analysis skills to strengthen these disciplines for the Treasury Settlement department. The Senior Business Leader will have the ability to understand a variety of different systems and applications, and may have experience in working with mainframe systems that need to be integrated into other proprietary applications. The Senior Business Leader will also use their banking, treasury, and risk knowledge to understand how systems need to be built to meet the needs of financial institution clients and central banks on a global basis. The role may involve engagement with commercial and central bank officials for fact finding, structuring, and negotiations. The Senior Business Leader may have one or two direct reports. The position will require international travel.
The Senior Business Leader will be operating within a matrixed team environment, sharing knowledge and experience with colleagues, and using well-honed interpersonal skills to influence and shape positive outcomes while providing thought leadership on best practices for payments. The ideal candidate will be used to working in a high pressure production environment spanning multiple time zones.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic direction for Treasury initiatives and projects for Settlement products and services for the entire globe, multiple individual countries, and specific products in support of multiple Visa corporate goals. In most cases, Treasury Settlement is either the central or one of the key elements of these initiatives.
* Help lead the solution design and build for the development of new proprietary applications and integration of existing applications and interfaces, with the goal to assume full leadership
* Assist with leading implementation plans, and ensuring new and existing functionality meets defined specifications/requirements on a global basis
* Drive engagement with project participants to ensure efficient and timely completion of system development and on-boarding of external clients globally
* Work across organizational, functional, technical and geographic lines to lead the efforts of diverse groups of stakeholders and contributors
* Provide key business guidance and decision making
* Directly develop and lead projects for new in-country and global settlement services
* Willing and able to quickly learn the complex business aspects of projects managed, and serve as a subject matter expert or thought leader.
* Lead the effort to enhance project management disciplines across all project activities within Treasury Settlement by improving staff skills and bringing greater standardization to the project management approach
* Integrate business, technology, financial, international payment standards, and regulatory elements in the design and implementation of complex global Settlement funds transfer and related strategic system architectural initiatives
* Use quantitative and critical thinking skills to provide accurate and considered analysis of issues along with appropriate solutions to meet the projects requirements
* Utilize knowledge of payment systems, as well as card network clearing and settlement systems to create practical solutions to facilitate improved processes and deliver client business solutions
* Analyze business processes to support scoping and requirements definition for all phases of project implementation and system enhancements
* Responsible as an Information Steward for Treasury systems to comply with corporate Key Controls.
* Oversee and manage relationships with IT and Visa Financial Systems Strategy on project planning, budgeting, approval, management and reporting.
* Provide Treasury evaluation for Product Risk Assessments and Operating Regulation change recommendations.

* Can help develop and communicate the project vision and key implications to stakeholders. Can translate Visa and Treasury Settlement business goals into a sense of urgency by product participants.
* Serve as a point of escalation for issue resolution. Diplomatically resolves conflicts by demonstrating leadership and appropriate decision making competencies among the Treasury and non-Treasury personnel assigned to the project effort.
* An enthusiasm for taking responsibility and a passion for knowledge
* A self-motivated and hard working individual who is goal orientated, able to work with minimal supervision, but also effectively as part of a team
* Experience managing and engaging subordinate
Subject Matter and Technical * Project management skills, (PMP, Prince 2, MS Project) are essential. Such skills include project integration, scope, cost, human resources, risk, and communication management.
* Knowledge of international funds transfer procedures such as SWIFT and knowledge of in-country payment systems.
* Having specialized knowledge of and experience working in finance, treasury, and payment management is highly desirable.
* Some familiarity with payments processing and settlement formats, including SWIFT messages, XML and ISO20022
* Depth of knowledge concerning banking, risk, legal, regulatory and contract negotiation matters.
* Experience with implementation/upgrade processes having a proven track record in delivering project work, on time and on budget
* Strong analytical skills to enable conceptual, practical, and quantitative analysis and judgements


Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred.
* Project Management certification preferred.
* At least 12 years of relevant work experience.
