The OnStar Software Development Project Manager will be responsible for managing OnStar IT development projects and programs.
• Apply and comply with Systems Development Process
• Participate in OnStar Systems Development Factory (SDF)
• Very strong understanding of application development
• Manage project financials
• Manage Projects Portfolio
• Manage suppliers' activities including transition and new deployments
• Makes presentations to all levels of management
• Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project
• Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
• Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends within IT
• Handles a variety of non-recurring special assignments
• Assists in developing solutions to unusual and difficult problems
• Frequent contact with others outside the work group
Qualifications
Basic Required:
• Minimum 7 years as project manager with software development and project management experience
• Software Development and Project Management experience
• Experience with Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and SOA processes
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information, Engineering
• Must have ability to understand technical issues and also handle business implications
• As project manager or program manager, must have successfully led a minimum of two complex, global, multi-vendor IT projects with responsibility for development and deployment
• Must have experience managing project budgets
• Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
• Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
• Enterprise Java programming experience highly desireable
• Capable of handling multiple diverse and complex assignments concurrently
• Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial
• Elicit requirements/support elicitation of requirements using a variety of elicitation techniques to articulate the system capabilities
• Analyze requirements to derive necessary and identify implicit requirements
• Manage requirements to ensure that scope is consistent with stated needs and that project deliverables remain synchronized as a result of agreed changes
• Knowledge of the techniques for managing cross-functional teams
• Organizing - ability to marshal resources (people, funding, material, support) orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal, use resources effectively and efficiently
• Critical thinking - use rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions
• Planning - accurately scopes out length and difficulty of tasks and projects; anticipates and adjusts for problems and roadblocks
• Business Acumen - understands how business works; maintains awareness of how strategies and tactics work in the marketplace
Basic Preferred:
• PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification
• MBA, advanced degree in technical or business area or equivalent experience
• Medium level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
• High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
• Well developed oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
• Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
• Knowledge of computer software
