Director COO Latin America eBay Ciudad De México

As part of eBay Latin Amercia’s Management Team, the COO will be responsible for leading key initiatives across a variety of domains, including business development, product development, strategic partnerships and go-to-market strategies. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering results in ambiguous and/or challenging circumstances; he/she will be curious and level-headed; they will be a critical thinker, comfortable with in-depth analysis while also having the ability to make decisions with imperfect information.
As a senior member of the Latin American business unit, this role will also be responsible for advocating constructively for the LatAm business within the eBay Americas organization, as well as with external stakeholders and partners. The incumbent will also serve as the ‘face’ of the eBay’s Latin American operations in-market, representing eBay with local media, at industry events and with key governmental contacts. As such, strong communication skills will be critical.

The role’s responsibilities are broad – including both the buy- and sell-sides of the marketplace, and ranging across functions and verticals – making this a perfect opportunity to learn the eBay business from end-to-end. At the same time, this role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to drive meaningful and immediate impact and support the continued growth of Latin America’s leading ecommerce marketplace.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the Management Team, ongoing development and communication of eBay LatAm’s strategic and tactical plans, oversight of business performance, and leadership & coaching of the Latin American team (based in both Mexico City and San Francisco).
Become the “face” of eBay in Latin America for both internal and external audiences:
Actively engage in public relations and government relations strategy and execution; build and maintain strong industry relationships across key regional markets; represent eBay at key industry events and speaking opportunities;
Become theinternal source for Latin American insights, including deep understanding of competitors, market trends, etc.
Design, oversight and delivery of initiatives across a range of business areas; coordination of cross-functional deliverables, including support of key customer segments, partners, and internal stakeholders.
Leadership of, and advocacy for, on- and off-platform solutions to address key customer pain-points and local market requirements;
Active development of partnership in-marketing opportunities
Development of strong, productive relationships across the eBay Americas organization, the Core Product and Technology organization, and with eBay leaders of other emerging markets to ensure the Latin American team is aware of developments, plans, etc. and to ensure that Latin America’s positions are appropriately represented.
Similarly, development of strong relationships with key partners, sector leaders & influencers, etc., in the Latin American ecommerce industry.
Leadership of the Latin American Product function: Constructive engagement with product and business teams in the Americas and around the world to understand and influence product initiatives impacting Latin American markets and to advocate for market-specific initiatives and considerations.
Oversight of the Latin American Business Development function (1 FTE, 5 contractors) tasked with growing export selling in key verticals.

Qualifications

Demonstrated leadership capabilities coupled with an enjoyment of ‘rolling up his/her sleeves’; a drive to get things done.
Exceptionally strong communication skills; proven ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed environment.
Significant experience (8+ years) working in ecommerce/Internet companies, including some experience in product management and/or product marketing; track record of engagement in ecommerce in Latin America.
Experience working in Latin America; knowledge of business norms, etc., specific to those markets.
Consulting experience preferred; university degree, MBA preferred.
Fluency in Spanish and English (Portuguese a plus)
