As a result of this continued growth and complexity of the business, Amazon Japan is seeking a Director of Public Relations to lead its external and internal communications in Japan. The right candidate will be an experienced, analytical, strategic, bi-lingual communications leader with extensive media relations experience and a proven track record of driving effective corporate and internal comunications.
He or she is an expert in creating and driving communications campaigns and internal communications, will have familiarity with crisis communication, can exercise high-judgement while acting quickly and successfully delivering on numerous collaborative projects, and feels comfortable providing counsel to internal senior leaders.
This role will also lead the development of programs and events that engage and inspire Amazon employees in Japan around the company’s mission, values, activities and milestones. As a people manager, this role requires someone who must be able to lead a great team, but when the job requires, roll up their own sleeves and get the job done independently with the same attention to quality and detail they expect from their team.

Core Job Responsibilities:
Define, develop, and oversee end-to-end execution of PR strategy and programs that drive awareness in support of corporate communications
Lead a team of PR professionals executing complex, high-impact PR campaigns for Amazon’s growing business in Japan
Develop and strengthen relationships with key journalists, bloggers and influencers among business, technology, lifestyle and trade media
Regularly interact with senior executives to influence strategy and negotiate decisions related to external communications plans
Work alongside the various business teams both in Japan and abroad to develop, manage and maintain the Amazon brand
Manage and create internal programs and events that drive employee learning, engagement and inspiration
Drive issues management programs and serve as key internal and leadership communications counselor on issues
Manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges with high judgement and professionalism
Effectively represent Amazon as a spokesperson as necessary



Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required
Minimum 15+ years of PR experience with 3-5 years people management experience
Experience working with media both in Japan and internationally
Experience leading PR for a global brand, preferably a Western-based company
Demonstrated team leadership and people development experience
Excellent English and Japanese written and oral skills
Corporate, consumer and/or technology PR experience preferred
