Director Innovation Skanska Seattle

The Director - Innovation will work collaboratively with the national and regional management teams in advancing change management within Skanska USA Commercial Development (CDUS) by creating a culture of innovation through leadership, strategy and direction for innovative solutions and improvements, including the development of new products, services and processes in areas such as safety, sustainable development, building and operations. The Director will co-develop and help integrate ideas, methods, and tools to support and enable every person to innovate around a values-based, market approach. Further, the Director will seek to increase the value of the Skanska brand in all markets around innovation to foster a best in class approach toward sustainable development.
What you’ll do:

Identify and share market trends and inspirational findings relating to innovative building technologies, helping regional teams with the focus on increasing CDUS’s ability to innovate in each of our markets
Lead and influence innovation to develop and launch short and long term new product initiatives. In collaboration with cross-functional teams, generate innovative product ideas that meet consumer needs while supporting the mission of the CDUS.
Systematically evaluate ideas to select high potential opportunities for further testing and/or feasibility analysis.
Develop briefs for all new innovation projects and provide feedback on marketing and creative output to markets and strategic services team to ensure all activities cohesively supports brand/product strategy.
Establish tangible goals for increasing the innovation, safety and sustainable strategies in project development.
Collaborate with project teams to support and evaluate project positioning.
Lead knowledge sharing sessions, setting agenda and desired outcomes.
Create innovation work groups to explore building technologies, practicalities, cost constraints, and marketing benefits.
Determine opportunities for collaboration within Skanska’s construction units and global business units
Collaborate and advise the regional and project teams with identifying, sourcing, interviewing and selecting innovative products and solutions.
Sounding board for regional and project teams to collaborate on best solutions, innovation tactics, sustainable practices, negotiating agreements, etc.
Support regional teams with budgeting for technology and tactics to be implemented in projects.
Represent CDUS at annual conferences in innovated development, etc.
Roles + Activities:

· Innovation Culture:

o Create a platform to foster and promote an empowering innovation culture in everything we do inside of CDUS. Scope will include the way we work together, development approach, new markets, IT, and other identified areas.

· Developing Staff Skills:

o Identify and implement areas of training for staff and developing / applying measures to track improvements in innovation and the skills underpinning them.

o Support best practices by scouting and standardizing market research methods for novel ideas and insights; strategic innovation; promoting open innovation; and introducing group tools and processess that encourage creative thinking.

· New Product and Service Initiatives:

o Acting as a methodology expert and facilitator throughout CDUS, supporting them in ”raising the bar” of their aspirations.

o Owning and allocating a yearly budget (seed funding) for ”risky” ideas, providing a space to nourish and protect new ideas.

· New Markets:

o analyzing trends and market disruptions and searching for emerging new market opportunities.

o Establish partnerships and cooperative agreements with new stakeholders in key markets.



What we’re looking for:

Expertise in project development with focus on sustainable real estate projects; green building principles, standards and certifications.
Demonstrated communications excellence including written communications, marketing, and presentation.
Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing corporate Innovation programs.
Experience in training and providing education to internal and external stakeholders.
Market Leadership in the area of Innovation (i.e. regular speaker, leader at industry conferences).
Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of progressive leadership in the industry
