We’re looking for a rock-star to join our fast-paced and transformational start-up. The Director of Payments is responsible for creating and delivering our pioneering business payments experience to our customers. The Director directs and manages all aspects of our payment operations including payment processing, pay-related customer management and multiple Lyft-business-related payment and financial needs. The Director has overall responsibility for scaling and optimizing our operations. This leader collaborates closely with our Product Management, Engineering, Fraud and Risk, Legal, Finance, and Partnership teams to create, enhance and operationalize our core payment and financial product capabilities. The individual will lead a highly motivated and skilled team to support the rapid growth and expansion of our services. The goal is to enhance processing efficiency, launch new capabilities, enhance pay-related customer experience and launch new Lyft business initiatives. This individual will be the ‘go to’ leader for multiple cross-functional teams to deliver their and Lyft’s objectives.
This leader will demand a customer-first approach to define and articulate the customer experience and advance our payment capabilities by working closely with various internal Lyft teams and external providers such as banks, payment processors, technology services, etc. The individual will be strategic and entrepreneurial and will identify relevant new payment functionality based on customer value or Lyft business. This leader will be a champion of change identifying process improvements, propose options for managing change in a cost-effective manner and enable continuous improvement through a constant review of reporting, processes, and workflows. The individual will be an experienced manager who has led, developed and grown leaders through management, development and mentorship.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Be the strategic organizational leader driving our future Pay vision in collaboration with Product Management and Engineering
Manage the financial contribution and partner with Finance, Business Leaders and Regional GMs to manage the impact to profitability of the overall Lyft business and individual regions
Direct ongoing improvements to our core payment operations processes, technologies, and team to continuously enhance our customers’ experience while enabling a high rate of growth and scale
Use metrics and quantitative analysis to drive operational excellence while improving our payment product and processing efficiency and scale. Develop and maintain tracking and reporting systems to measure, manage, and communicate operations performance
Create, develop and manage all payments and financial partner and service provider relationships to achieve operational goals, service levels, and performance targets
Identify enhancements to Pay services, communicate and prioritize development with product management and engineering teams
Communicate and report overall status, primary metrics related to Pay performance, key issues and program readiness timelines to senior management and executives
Establish business cases and projected ROI on investment to identify and prioritize opportunities
Develop and manage the end-to-end process with various Lyft teams to resolve customer-related pay issues exceeding service-level metrics and providing the best possible customer experience
Manage, develop and grow the team, provide ongoing feedback, fostering cross-functional communication and teamwork and meeting team-related goals
Ensure the career development of team members that foster ongoing personnel skill development, performance, and professional growth
Develop and manage operating budgets and staffing models in support of our operating model.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
12+ years of experience in payments or financial services across marketplaces, ecommerce, retail, digital media or financial services industries
Master's degree/MBA
Experience in leading large teams for multi-billion-dollar financial services industry segments
A thorough knowledge of payment practices including card-not-present processing, payment gateway functionality, credit, debit and prepaid and issuer authorization, decline and chargebacks
Expert knowledge, skills and demonstrated track record across a range of functions including various payment applications and channels, including point of sale and e-commerce
Proven experience in reducing payment processing costs and building sustainable payment initiatives
Proven ability to attract, develop and grow talent and personnel
Demonstrate a bias for action in delivering innovative programs, resolving issues and to think and react in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
Manage, guide and grow a team of smart and passionate individuals to exceed team and department goals
Be extremely focused on data and analytics to solve problems and a track record of driving results through continuous improvement
Demonstrated strategic thinking and cross-functional team influence
Being vocally self-critical
Tenacity to keep issues top of mind of relevant stakeholders and conviction to make the right decisions
History of effectively working with multiple teams to build new capability and implement projects
