We are currently looking for a leader for our Systems Architect team San Jose, CA. The Candidate will be a key technical lead in the System Architecture Lab. He or she will join a team of experts in researching and developing innovative memory and storage solutions. He or she will define and partner on building and optimizing end-to-end architecture solutions that leverage Samsung memory products. The Candidate will propose new platform architecture, design, prototype and proof-of-concept (POC) systems to validate the Memory Platform Architecture Lab’s new technology concepts. The candidate must be knowledgeable in various aspects of platform architecture & constraints of system design with experience leading the development of platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Lead the design and prototyping of future platform architectures to bring innovation applicable to distributed storage systems, Networked storage optimization, Data analytics and near Storage processing, etc.
· Work closely with strategic teams to sense and scope new technology innovation targeted to customer/industry needs & opportunities in new & expanding markets.
· Shape MPL YOY vision and charter for near and long term innovation roadmap
· Provide technical leadership and guidance for all phases of architecture development and proof of concept design, especially:
· Deliver high quality detailed Architecture Specifications
· Architecture tradeoffs and feasibility analysis
· Prototype Proof-of-concept hardware platforms
· Engage and partner with ODMs, ISV and End customers to deliver end-to-end value add technology & feature differentiation.
· Demonstrate technology differentiation on relevant Software Stacks. Applications, representative workloads and benchmarks.
· Interface with development & product teams to drive innovative features into products, Open source ecosystem and partner solutions.
Background / Experience
· MS or PhD in Computer Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
· 10+ years’ experience in shaping / delivering new platform architecture and solutions.
· Knowledge of Storage systems and platforms architecture
· Working knowledge of memory and storage systems (DDR3, DDR4, NAND flash, SSD, HDD, SAS, SATA, PoS, NVMe, etc.)
· Experience leading a team of researchers, consultants, partners to design, build, bring-up and test proof-of-concept systems/prototypes of new technologies
· Some experience driving ecosystem adoption of new technologies.
· Experience with outsourced design management, contract negotiation, Personnel & project management as needed.
Skills and Abilities
· Must be highly motivated with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to work successfully with cross-functional teams, including coordinating across organizational boundaries and geographies.
· Work without direct oversight among cross-functional development teams
· Ability to formulate and pitch new technology portfolios to upper management and excite stakeholders.
