Define and evolve a unified artistic direction, vision and high production standard in the creation of products within the Facebook Social VR team
Work with a small team to conceptualize artistic style for VR experiences in line with the creative vision and audience expressed for the product
Responsible for the creation of style guides and related materials for internal and external teams
Communicate art direction goals on an executive level with corporate teams and external partners
Manage expectations for key stakeholders across Oculus regarding the execution of quality VR experiences and content
Regularly meet with art leads to define art quality standards, direct, and modify production artwork for social VR
Use industry standard and proprietary tools to create content
Partner with PMs and art management to plan production priorities and review production art for check in
Partner with product managers, engineers, user researchers, and designers to see our projects through from concept to ship and beyond
Minimum Qualifications
3D art modeling skills with an emphasis on character modeling
Ability to define and drive varied art styles, from realistic to caricature to abstract
Ability to articulate visual vision and direct team of multidisciplinary contributors, engineers, technical artists, animators, modelers, etc., to achieve visual goal
Technical skills – understand the underlying technology and tools and constraints necessary to make art for multiple platforms: virtual reality, 3D and 2D
Familiarity with modern 3D graphics art production – rigging, animation, modeling, hard surface, environments, lighting, shaders, etc.
Familiarity with standard game engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine
Familiarity with industry standard art tools such as Maya
Portfolio demonstrating an interest in games and/or VR
5+ years industry experience in games, film, or other interactive media
Prior Art Direction or Assistant AD experience on multiple shipping/public products
