We are looking for a Programming Director to lead the EMEA programming teams responsible for the creation, delivery and communication of channel strategies (linear and non-linear), schedules and forward plans for BBC Worldwide’s branded services in the region. The role is responsible for developing and executing programming and scheduling strategy for the channels in close liaison with VP Branded Services.
Accountabilities
To develop long-term programming and schedule strategies for the region, maximising ratings and reach performance whilst upholding the individual channel brands and supporting strategic business objectives across the portfolio
Management of long term programming roadmaps in collaboration with Programme Managers to deliver performance targets
To directly manage a team of Programme Managers to deliver performance and business KPI’s across the portfolio and by individual channel brands
·Ensure appropriate mix of content that delivers on BBC brand values as well as connects locally with relevant content for the markets
Align performance targets with commercial requirements to deliver optimal financial success for the brands (linear and non-linear).
Work with in-region ad sales houses in the region to optimise schedules to deliver monthly and annual impact targets.
To build positive and productive relationships with key partners in the territory
To lead and oversee the day-to-day management of the channels within the territory, providing the first point of contact for internal and external enquiries
Work closely with Acquisitions team to recommend, select and deliver the right content for the market within budgets and deliver targets
To be an expert in the local market and monitor competitor trends, ensuring that our schedules deliver optimum commercial return
To provide expert leadership to and management of a team of Programming Managers Programming Assistants, including setting performance targets and championing best practice at all levels
To ensure all members of the programming team are supported in their personal development and enabling succession planning
To preview and evaluate programmes, taking into account channel brand and target audience. The role will make recommendations for all acquisitions for the BBCW channels in region, taking channel strategies and budgets in to consideration
Help identify content and provide direction to the Head of Acquisitions responding to queries in a timely and effective manner, as well as working closely with the VP Branded Services to apportion and track budgets
Tight budget control and management of programming spend approvals process in conjunction with VP Branded Services
To manage and control channel blueprints ensuring the right mix of content is delivered for affiliates and viewers that delivers on brand promise.
To ensure audience research is effectively utilised to properly inform content decisions and highlight future opportunities and weaknesses across the channels, reacting decisively to declining performance in a considered and strategic manner
To work closely with the VP Branded Services to plan and execute channel brand and on-air promotion strategies
To work closely with the VP Branded Services on new regional developments and proposals, including assistance with market analysis, contributions to the programming strategy and drafting localised schedule models based on available content
Ensure channels are compliant with BBC Worldwide’s Editorial Framework and Guidelines, with all content subject to internal compliance and local classification review (appropriate warnings and/or consumer advice assigned)
