Overall purpose of role:
Lead the India legal team responsible for supporting the corporate banking, investment banking and wealth businesses in India, reporting to India Head of Legal and Compliance.
Key Accountabilities
Primary accountabilities are the following:
Delivery of Legal services to the CIBWIM businesses, such as:
Legal risk management of, and advice and support to, the businesses,
on cross border transactions in the context of Indian law and regulations;
in relation to transactions – structuring advice, drafting, preparation and finalisation of documentation, negotiation with clients and/or their counsel, input to and approval of legal opinion;
advice on the application of various laws and regulations,
management of external counsel, their deliverables and costs.

Risk and Control Objective
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards.

Person Specification
Indian Law degree from a reputed law school with a good academic record
Post qualification experience of at least 12 years with a focus on Indian law, preferably in the banking and financial services sector, or in a well established law firm that works with clients in the banking and financial services sector
Ability to build good working relationships with stakeholders
Effective negotiation skills
Strong commercial focus
Delivery under pressure
Excellent communication skills
Ability to assimilate developments in areas of laws and businesses
