Microsoft’s Corporate Strategy team operates as an internal consultancy and advises the CEO and senior leadership team on a range of topics including growth strategy, competitive analysis, and future trends. This role on our bicoastal strategy team is based in Washington, DC. This role puts you in the middle of the transformation of one of the world’s largest and most influential companies, in the midst of the biggest disruption in the history of the technology industry. Responsibilities:
Work closely with executives, other Corporate Strategy team members, and technologists to analyze technology trends and data and develop creative solutions to key business issues, with frequent presentations to senior management.
Create problem-solving frameworks to tackle complex problems; drive diagnostic rigor in making decisions: analyze research and data to develop actionable solutions.
Lead key modules of strategy projects; help project director scope and plan the projects, and orchestrate multiple high-priority work streams across business groups.
Formulate original and insightful analyses and business models and deliver them consistently in a persuasive and thoughtful manner.
Understand and stay current on industry trends, internal product development efforts, and competitive landscape (top competitors, startups, emerging segments, etc.).
Build consensus and effectively influence senior-level stakeholders with disparate priorities.

Example project areas include: analysis of industry evolution, value chain assessment, white space opportunity sizing, business model portfolio analysis, strategic acquisition evaluation, new initiative ideation, competitive analysis and game theory.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience at strategy consulting firms, technology groups, investment banking, in-house strategy teams, or other corporate strategy & development manager experience.
Passion for technology, and ability to understand and stay current on industry trends, internal product development efforts, and competitive landscape (top competitors, startups, emerging segments, etc.).
Ability to create logical problem-solving frameworks to drive diagnostic rigor in making complex decisions.
Ability to build networks and relationships through formal and informal channels.
Technology industry experience, with a strong understanding of software and business technology markets, trends, and dynamics.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate, communicate, persuade, and influence different audiences.
Exceptional executive level oral and written communication skills and ability to formulate and deliver insights around business problems in a thoughtful and persuasive manner.
Demonstrated growth mindset with a nimble learning style.
Demonstrated sense of curiosity and discovery.
Ability to learn through constructive feedback.
Ability to manage multiple simultaneous high-priority projects (often including project management of cross-functional teams and strategy analysts).
A love for team-based work in a high intensity environment (i.e., a willingness to get your hands dirty and play whatever role the team needs and to operate against demanding deadlines for senior executives).
A “question the status quo” and entrepreneurial mindset; a love for learning and natural curiosity.
High aptitude with Excel, PowerPoint and market research.

Located in or willingness to relocate to Washington, DC

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with financial accounting, financial modeling, M&A, valuations, and DCF models.
M&A deal experience.
Experience working in a tech startup, particularly in a business or strategy role.

Technical expertise in one or more of the following:
Software development
Cloud computing
Artificial Intelligence
Next-generation interfaces (e.g. conversational platforms, mixed reality)
Breakthrough technologies (e.g. quantum computing, brain-computer interface)
Other emerging technology areas
